What is ZITADEL?

ZITADEL is a free, open-source identity infrastructure platform for centralizing authentication, single sign-on, organizations, projects and application access through OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, SAML and passkeys. This template deploys version 4.17.1 alongside Login V2.

Is ZITADEL free?

Yes — it is free and open source under the GNU AGPL v3. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself. If you modify and redistribute it, you still need to satisfy AGPL's corresponding-source obligations.

Can I self-host ZITADEL?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the vendor-maintained ZITADEL 4.17.1 and Login V2 images alongside a private PostgreSQL database, all pinned by immutable digest, and publishes the gateway over HTTPS on your domain instead of assembled by hand.

How do I sign in the first time?

Are organizations and projects pre-created for me?

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The pinned ZITADEL 4.17.1 and Login V2 images, the private PostgreSQL database, the persistent identity and bootstrap volumes, your first administrator account, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the gateway is published through xCloud-managed ingress — PostgreSQL and internal services stay private.

Does ZITADEL send email out of the box?

No. This template does not configure SMTP. Set it up before enabling email verification or password recovery for real users — until then, those flows have nowhere to deliver mail.

What should I back up?

zitadel_postgres_data and zitadel_bootstrap_data together, as one recovery boundary. Use an application-consistent PostgreSQL backup, keep encrypted off-server copies, and test restoration in isolation before you need it for real.

Can I change ZITADEL_MASTERKEY?

Keep it exactly 32 characters and stable after initialization. Changing it can make already-encrypted data unreadable, so treat it as fixed once ZITADEL is live, not as a value to rotate casually.

How do I rotate the database password?

Update the PostgreSQL role first, then coordinate both database password environment values before redeploying. Doing it out of order can lock ZITADEL out of its own database.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update ZITADEL?

No. The template pins ZITADEL 4.17.1 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review upstream release notes and take a verified backup before changing the pinned release.

What are the server requirements?

The source brief for this template does not publish a manifest RAM/CPU/disk floor the way some other OneClick briefs do. This page sells the 6 GB tier, matching the live checkout link this app's catalog entry actually uses — the same entry rung most lighter OneClick apps here sell.

What survives a restart?

Everything on zitadel_postgres_data and zitadel_bootstrap_data, because both are persistent named volumes. Identity, policy, audit, project and Login V2 bootstrap state all survive xCloud lifecycle actions like a restart.

Is xCloud officially partnered with ZITADEL?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the ZITADEL project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source ZITADEL project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
