What is Databasus?

Databasus is a free, open-source and self-hosted tool to back up databases. It centralises connections for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and MongoDB, schedules backups with retention policies, sends them to local or cloud storage and notifies you of progress, with physical, incremental and WAL-streaming modes for PostgreSQL. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted Databasus, an alternative to the backup features of a managed database service, under the Apache-2.0 licence.

The databasus_data volume holds the metadata, the secret key and any local backups. The template mounts no Docker socket, so restore checks that launch containers are not available.

Can I run Databasus in Docker?

Yes, and this template is Databasus Docker hosting without the setup: the all-in-one databasus/databasus v3.55.3 image pinned by digest, one container, the databasus_data volume and an HTTPS route to port 4005. It needs no database sidecar or raw database port.

How much RAM does Databasus need?

Upstream documents a minimum of 1 CPU core, 500 MB of RAM and 5 GB for installation, and this template declares 1 vCPU, 512 MB and 5 GB. Retention, dump space and local backups can need much more disk. This page sells the 6 GB tier.

Which databases can Databasus back up?

PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and MongoDB, per upstream and the template. Add each connection inside Databasus with the least privilege suited to backup and restore. Credentials are entered in the console, not stored in the xCloud environment.

How do I set the Databasus admin password?

Open the URL straight after install. The image creates a passwordless admin record on first boot and offers a one-time password endpoint until you set one, so a stranger could claim it. Set the password, sign in as admin, then disable external registrations.

Does Databasus support point-in-time recovery?

Upstream describes PostgreSQL physical backups with incremental copies and WAL streaming, designed for disaster recovery and point-in-time recovery. Whether it fits depends on your server settings, so run a manual backup and test a restore before relying on it.

Where does Databasus store backups?

Wherever you point it: local storage on this server, or cloud and network destinations such as S3, Cloudflare R2, Google Drive, SFTP or Rclone. Local copies share the databasus_data volume, so send important backups to a second location.

Is Databasus free?

Yes. Databasus is released under the Apache-2.0 licence, so nothing is charged for the program, just for the server it runs on. Storage destinations and notification services you connect may charge separately. Read each destination's terms first.

How do I back up Databasus itself?

Back up the whole databasus_data volume as one unit. It holds the metadata database, the secret key that encrypts stored connection and storage credentials, and locally kept backups. Without that key, encrypted configuration cannot be recovered. Nothing schedules this backup.

How do I upgrade Databasus?

Nothing upgrades itself: v3.55.3 is pinned by digest, and a catalog re-sync only reaches new installs. Back up the volume and verify it, read the release notes for migration warnings, then adopt a newer template version without removing the volume, rather than editing the image tag or digest.

Is this a Databasus cloud service?

It is Databasus on a dedicated Cloud VPS under your xCloud login, a Databasus cloud of your own at your domain. Restore verification that launches containers is not part of this baseline, because no Docker socket is mounted.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
