What is Davis?

Davis is a modern, simple, feature-packed DAV server with an admin interface and frontend based on sabre/dav, built with Symfony and Bootstrap and inspired by Baikal. It supports CalDAV, CardDAV, WebDAV, calendar sharing, scheduling and public calendars, depending on the capabilities of your client. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted Davis, an alternative to a hosted calendar and contacts service such as Google Calendar, under the MIT licence.

On xCloud it is the barebone Davis 5.4.3 image behind a pinned nginx 1.29.1, both pinned by digest, with PHP-FPM kept private. The SQLite database lives in the davis_data volume. The administrator credentials control the web dashboard, and DAV users are created separately in Davis. IMAP and LDAP sign-in are not configured.

Can I run Davis in Docker?

Yes, and this template is Davis Docker hosting without the setup: the barebone ghcr.io/tchapi/davis 5.4.3 image behind a pinned nginx, both pinned by digest, with the davis_data volume and an HTTPS route to port 8080. Upstream also publishes a standalone image with its own web server.

How much RAM does Davis need?

The template baseline is 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 3 GB of disk, and storage grows with calendar and contact data and attachments. You can start small and resize later, but plan disk early.

How do I sync calendars with Davis?

Create a DAV user in the dashboard, then add a CalDAV or CardDAV account in your client using the discovery URLs Davis displays and that user's credentials. Scheduling, mail notifications and subscriptions depend on what the client supports.

How do I add a DAV user in Davis?

Sign in to the dashboard with the administrator login, open the users section and create a user with its own password. DAV users are separate from the administrator, so each person or device should use a DAV account, never the admin login.

Yes. Upstream lists public calendars, available to anyone with the link, alongside subscriptions added from a client and an automatic birthday calendar. Share the link only for calendars you intend to publish, as it needs no account.

Is Davis free?

Yes. Davis is released under the MIT licence, so the software costs nothing; hosting the server is the only expense that remains. Client apps you use to sync may have their own prices and terms.

How do I back up Davis?

Back up the whole davis_data volume, which holds the SQLite database and the public asset copy paired with the installation. Stop writes or use an SQLite-aware snapshot, keep an off-server copy and test a restore. No built-in timer exists; script the copy and confirm it restores.

How do I upgrade Davis?

Nothing upgrades itself: Davis 5.4.3 and nginx 1.29.1 are pinned by digest. Back up the volume, review both projects' release notes, validate migrations, then adopt a newer template version rather than editing the image tags or digests, and check that a DAV object survives the move.

Is this a Davis cloud service?

It is Davis on a dedicated Cloud VPS under your xCloud login, a Davis cloud of your own at your domain. Rotate the dashboard login by updating ADMIN_PASSWORD, and rotate each DAV user's credentials separately in Davis.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
