Ergo Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Ergo hosting and run your own IRC network on a server you control. xCloud runs the pinned Ergo v2.19.1 official image in a single container, generates a server password and an operator password, and mounts a persistent volume for accounts, registered channels and the TLS certificate — connect with any IRC client.

What is Ergo?

Ergo is a modern IRC server written in Go. Accounts, channel registration, message history and services (NickServ and ChanServ) are built in, so there is no separate services daemon or bouncer to run.

It has no web interface. You connect with any IRC client to the server's IP address, over TLS or plain text, and store its accounts and registered channels in an embedded database file.

From Sign-Up to a Live IRC Network In Just 3 Easy Steps

Running IRC usually means a server, a services daemon, a bouncer, a certificate and hashed passwords before anyone can chat. Ergo has accounts and channel registration built in, and this is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Ergo from the OneClick catalog. Enter a network name and a server hostname — the hostname needs a dot but does not have to resolve in DNS.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Ergo image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with an embedded database, mount the ergo_data volume, generate the server and operator passwords, and publish an IRC over TLS port and a plain text port on your server's IP.

  3. Step 03

    Connect And Register

Add a server in any IRC client with the server address, the TLS port and the Server Password, with TLS on, and accept the self-signed certificate. Register an account with /msg NickServ REGISTER, then /OPER admin with the Operator Password to administer.

Everything Ergo Does, On Your Own Server

Ergo runs in full here: an IRC server with accounts and channels built in, on your own server and your own network name.

  • Accounts With NickServ

Register a nickname with /msg NickServ REGISTER and keep an account on your own network, with no separate services daemon.

  • Channel Registration With ChanServ

Register channels with /msg ChanServ REGISTER #channel so they belong to an account.

  • Bouncer-Like Features

Stored message history and several clients on one nickname, without running a bouncer.

  • IRC Over TLS Or Plain Text

Two TCP ports are published: IRC over TLS and IRC plain text. Prefer the TLS port; the plain text port sends passwords and messages unencrypted.

  • Generated Server Password

Clients send the server password with PASS, so only people you share it with can connect. Clear it from the Environment editor for a public network.

  • Operator Account

A generated operator account named admin lets you administer the network with /OPER admin and the Operator Password.

Everything You Need To Run Your IRC Network 24/7

Managed hosting for Ergo, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Ergo v2.19.1 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Server and operator passwords generated
  • IRC over TLS port included
  • Persistent storage for accounts and channels
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Ergo

  • A private community network

Give a community its own IRC network where only people who know the server password can connect and register nicknames.

  • Project chat

Register a channel for your project so it belongs to an account, with services built in rather than bolted on.

  • A team IRC network

Run IRC for a team on your own server, with an operator account to administer it.

  • History and multiple clients

Use stored message history and several clients on one nickname without running a separate bouncer.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo Villa
Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I connect to Ergo?

Ergo has no web page. Add a server in any IRC client with the server address, the TLS port and the Server Password shown in your installation credentials, turn TLS on, and accept the self-signed certificate on first connect.

What makes Ergo different from other IRC servers?

Accounts, channel registration and history are built in, so there is no separate services daemon or bouncer.

How do I sign in?

Connect with the Server Password from the credentials. Register a nickname with NickServ using /msg NickServ REGISTER. Administer with /OPER admin and the Operator Password.

What runs alongside Ergo?

Nothing. It is a single container with an embedded database.

Does the server need a domain or HTTPS?

No. Clients connect straight to the server's IP and the published ports. The server hostname you enter at install must contain a dot, but it does not need to resolve in DNS.

Does xCloud open the IRC ports in my firewall?

No. The platform does not open firewall ports for you. Open the TLS port, and the plain text port only if you need it, in your own firewall. The plain text port sends passwords and messages unencrypted.

How do I change the server or operator password?

Both are re-applied from the Environment editor on every start. Change them there and redeploy. Clearing the Server Password makes the network open to anyone who can connect.

Can I use my own TLS certificate?

Yes. The certificate is self-signed; replace fullchain.pem and privkey.pem in the ergo_data volume to use your own.

Is message history kept after a restart?

No. Message history is kept in memory and is lost on restart. Registered accounts and channels survive an xCloud Restart.

What should I back up?

The ergo_data volume. It holds ircd.yaml, the embedded database with accounts and registered channels, and the TLS certificate and key.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Ergo?

No. The template pins Ergo v2.19.1 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 7.5 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, which leaves ample headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Ergo?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Ergo project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Ergo project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
