What is GLAuth?

GLAuth is a lightweight LDAP server for home labs, development and CI pipelines. Instead of a database, users, groups and password digests live in a single TOML configuration file, and there is no administration UI.

This template deploys GLAuth v2.5.4 with a generated service account, failed-bind throttling and a Basic Auth gateway in front of the read-only status page and /metrics.

From Sign-Up to a Live Directory In Just 3 Easy Steps

A GLAuth setup normally means writing a configuration file, generating a password digest, protecting the status page, a volume and a domain before the first bind. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

    Sign Up

    Create your xCloud account and pick GLAuth from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server, then set the LDAP Base DN (for example dc=example,dc=com).

We bring up the official GLAuth image pinned by immutable digest, a one-shot configuration helper that writes the configuration file once, and an nginx gateway that puts the status page behind a Basic Auth login. The glauth_config volume holds the configuration file, the bind password and the status page login are generated, and the status page is published over HTTPS on your domain.

    Connect Your LDAP Clients

    Save the bind password and status page login from the protected installation credentials, then point your LDAP clients at the shown host and port with the bind DN cn=serviceuser,ou=svcaccts and your base DN. Add users and groups by editing the configuration file.

What makes GLAuth different?

It is a tiny LDAP server whose directory is one configuration file, with no database.

How do I sign in?

LDAP clients bind with the generated service account (cn=serviceuser,ou=svcaccts under your base DN); the status page uses the generated Basic Auth login. Both are shown in the protected installation credentials, and anonymous search and wrong passwords are rejected.

What runs alongside GLAuth?

A one-shot configuration helper that writes the configuration file once, and an nginx gateway that puts the status page behind a Basic Auth login.

How do I add users and groups?

Edit the configuration file in the helper container, add [[users]] and [[groups]] blocks, and store passwords as a SHA-256 digest. Changes are normally picked up automatically; restart the GLAuth container if they are not, or when you change the [ldap], [backend] or [api] sections.

Is the LDAP connection encrypted?

No. The template configures plain-text LDAP, so bind passwords cross the network unencrypted. xCloud opens no firewall port: open the LDAP port only for trusted hosts or a private network.

Can I change the Base DN after install?

BASE_DN and the bind password are written into the configuration file once, on first start. Editing them in the Environment editor and redeploying does not change the running directory; changing the Base DN later means editing the configuration file and updating every client.

What should I back up?

The glauth_config volume, which holds the whole directory. Keep it private: it contains password digests.

What survives a restart?

The configuration file on the glauth_config volume survives an xCloud Restart.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update GLAuth?

No. The template pins GLAuth v2.5.4 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk; measured idle use of GLAuth in QA was about 11 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung of the OneClick plan family.

Is xCloud officially partnered with GLAuth?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the GLAuth project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source GLAuth project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
