go2rtc Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy go2rtc hosting and bring your camera and video streams into one self-hosted camera streaming gateway on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned go2rtc 1.9.14 image as a single container, generates a 24-character admin password that guards both the web UI and the HTTP API, keeps your streams in a persistent config volume and publishes everything over HTTPS in minutes, with no open camera endpoint on the internet.

What is go2rtc?

Self-hosted go2rtc is a camera streaming application, described in its README as zero-dependency and zero-config, with the lowest possible streaming latency for many protocols. It ingests RTSP, RTMP, HTTP, FFmpeg and many vendor camera sources, plays them back through RTSP, WebRTC, MSE, HLS or MJPEG, transcodes unsupported codecs on the fly and offers an HTTP API for smart-home platforms. It stands in for each camera maker's own cloud app, under the MIT licence.

On xCloud the template runs the alexxit/go2rtc 1.9.14 image as a single container, pinned by immutable digest, with a go2rtc_config volume. A generated admin password guards the web UI and every API path over HTTPS. Only the web port is published, and go2rtc streams video but does not record or detect motion.

From Sign-Up to a Live Stream Gateway In Just 3 Easy Steps

A self-hosted stream gateway normally means a container, a config file, authentication in front of the API, a domain and a certificate before the first camera plays. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick go2rtc from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official go2rtc image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with no companion services, mount the go2rtc_config volume at /config, generate the admin password and publish the web interface and HTTP API over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Add Your First Stream

Save the admin password from your protected installation credentials, open your HTTPS domain and sign in as admin. Add a stream from the web interface or the config editor, then open it in the browser player.

Everything go2rtc Does, On Your Own Server

go2rtc runs in full here: a stream gateway, a web UI and an HTTP API on your own domain, with every stream defined in a config file on a volume you own.

  • Many Stream Sources

Pull streams from RTSP, RTMP, DVRIP, HTTP (FLV, MJPEG, JPEG, TS) and any source FFmpeg can read, plus vendor protocols such as TP-Link Tapo, Hikvision ISAPI, ONVIF, Xiaomi and Wyze.

  • Browser Playback Over HTTPS

Watch a stream in the browser from your HTTPS domain. MSE playback was confirmed in QA.

  • FFmpeg Transcoding

Transcode on the fly through FFmpeg for codecs a browser cannot play directly.

  • Config Editor

The web UI includes a config editor that validates, autocompletes and explains settings, new in 1.9.14.

  • HTTP API For Automation

An HTTP API lets smart-home and automation tools read and change streams. Here it sits behind the same admin credentials as the UI.

  • Streams Survive A Restart

Streams and settings live in /config/go2rtc.yaml on the go2rtc_config volume; a configured stream was still there after an xCloud Restart in QA.

Everything You Need To Run Your Camera Streaming 24/7

Managed hosting for go2rtc, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • go2rtc 1.9.14 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Admin password generated for you
  • Streams kept on a persistent volume
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included

What You Can Do With go2rtc

  • View IP cameras in a browser

Add an RTSP or vendor camera URL and watch it from any browser over your own HTTPS domain, without a desktop player.

  • Bring mixed camera brands into one place

Combine RTSP, ONVIF, Tapo, Hikvision and other sources behind one gateway with one login.

  • Convert streams a browser can't play

Use FFmpeg transcoding to turn codecs a browser rejects into something it can play.

  • Feed smart-home and automation tools

Let home-automation software read and manage streams through the password-protected HTTP API.

go2rtc vs Alternatives

Vendor camera apps
go2rtc's README lists sources from many camera makers, including Tapo, Hikvision, Xiaomi and Wyze, and here it combines their streams on a server you control, behind your own login.
MediaMTX
MediaMTX is another self-hosted streaming server with its own xCloud template. Compare its engine and feature set with go2rtc's before you choose.
Home Assistant
Home Assistant is a smart-home platform with its own xCloud template that can show camera streams. go2rtc is a focused stream gateway, not a home-automation hub.
A desktop media player
go2rtc turns RTSP and other sources into browser playback over HTTPS for everyone you give the login, with no player to install.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How much RAM does go2rtc need?

The manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk, and QA measured about 3 to 6 MB idle. The 256 MB floor leaves room for FFmpeg transcoding, and the 6 GB Cloud VPS sold on this page leaves far more than that.

Is go2rtc free and open source?

Yes. go2rtc is MIT licensed, per the LICENSE file at the v1.9.14 tag, so there is no licence charge on top of the Cloud VPS xCloud bills, and your stream configuration stays on your own volume.

Can you run go2rtc with Docker?

Yes, and this is go2rtc Docker hosting prepared for you: the template runs the official alexxit/go2rtc 1.9.14 image as one container, pinned by immutable digest, with HTTPS on your domain, so it works as go2rtc cloud hosting on your own VPS.

What is the difference between go2rtc and MediaMTX?

Both are self-hosted streaming servers. go2rtc's README stresses broad camera and vendor source support, browser playback and on-the-fly transcoding. MediaMTX has its own xCloud page, so compare the two against the sources and latency you need.

How do I sign in to go2rtc?

Open your HTTPS domain and sign in as admin with the password from the protected installation credentials. The same credentials authenticate HTTP API calls, and requests without them, including config writes and restarts, got 401 in QA. Login settings in go2rtc.yaml do not override them.

Can go2rtc reach cameras on my home network?

Only if the server can reach them. go2rtc runs on your xCloud server, so each camera or source URL must be reachable from there. A camera on a private network needs a route to the server, for example a public RTSP URL or a VPN.

Can external clients connect to go2rtc over RTSP or WebRTC?

Not with this template. Only the web interface and HTTP API on container port 1984 are published, through HTTPS. The raw RTSP and WebRTC listener ports are not published, so clients that expect them on the server are unsupported; browser playback runs over HTTPS.

Does go2rtc record video?

No. go2rtc is a streaming gateway: it relays and converts live streams, and the README describes no recording, motion detection or NVR features. Pair it with other software if you need recordings, and check that the stream is reachable first.

What should I back up on a go2rtc server?

The go2rtc_config volume, which holds go2rtc.yaml with all your streams and settings, plus the site environment values. Keep the admin password private, copy the volume off the server, and test a restore. A configured stream survived an xCloud Restart in QA.

How do I upgrade go2rtc?

Nothing upgrades it for you: the install stays on pinned release 1.9.14 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up the config volume first, read the go2rtc release notes, then check that your streams still play afterwards.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.

Ready to Run Your Own Stream Gateway?

Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
