Its README says you send files as multipart form data and get a PDF back, with no need to manage Chromium, LibreOffice or fonts yourself. How much RAM does Gotenberg need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 4 GB of disk as a floor, since Chromium and LibreOffice do the conversion work. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold on this page leaves headroom above that floor; large or concurrent conversions may need more memory and CPU.

Is Gotenberg free and open source?

Yes. Gotenberg is MIT licensed, per the LICENSE file at the v8.37.0 tag, so there is no licence charge. The xCloud bill covers the dedicated Cloud VPS, the generated credentials and the HTTPS routing around it.

How do I authenticate Gotenberg API requests?

Every conversion endpoint needs HTTP Basic authentication with the generated username and password from your credential panel. The /health route is the one exception and stays unauthenticated so monitoring tools can reach it without credentials.

Which file formats can Gotenberg convert?

Does Gotenberg store my documents?

What should I back up on a Gotenberg server?

Nothing in the usual sense: the manifest defines no persistent volumes, because Gotenberg keeps no customer data between requests. Keep a private copy of the API credentials, and rely on server-level backups for the server itself.

Nothing upgrades it for you: the install stays on pinned release 8.37.0 until you adopt a newer template version. Read the upstream release notes first, then run a test conversion of each format you use after the new version is running.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
