What is Gotenberg?

Is Gotenberg free?

Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT licence. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on, the generated credentials and the HTTPS routing around it, not the application itself.

Can I self-host Gotenberg?

What formats and routes does Gotenberg convert?

Does Gotenberg store my documents or the PDFs it generates?

No. Gotenberg is intentionally stateless in this template — it does not keep input files, generated PDFs or conversion history after a request completes. If you need to retain a converted document, your calling application must store it; Gotenberg's job ends when it hands back the response.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The pinned Gotenberg 8.36.0 image by immutable digest, a generated HTTP Basic API username and password, the domain and HTTPS route, and the upstream port bound to localhost so the container is never directly exposed to the internet.

How do I authenticate API requests?

Every conversion endpoint requires HTTP Basic authentication with the generated username and password shown in your xCloud credential panel. The /health route is the one exception — it stays intentionally unauthenticated so monitoring tools can reach it without credentials.

Can I rotate the API credentials?

Yes, but not one at a time. Update both GOTENBERG_API_BASIC_AUTH_USERNAME and GOTENBERG_API_BASIC_AUTH_PASSWORD together in the Environment editor, restart the application, then update every API client with the new pair. Rotating only one half breaks authentication for every caller still using the old value.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 4 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, matching that floor with real headroom once the OS and other processes are accounted for.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Gotenberg?

No. The template pins Gotenberg 8.36.0 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Because the service is stateless there is no application data to back up — only the server itself, which xCloud's own server-level backups already cover.

Is there anything to back up?

Not in the usual sense. The manifest defines no persistent volumes for this template, because Gotenberg keeps no customer data between requests. That's simpler to operate, not a limitation — there's no data volume that can go out of sync or need restoring.

How does Gotenberg protect against server-side request forgery (SSRF)?

Some conversion routes accept a downloadFrom URL to fetch source material. Requests that target a private IP address are denied by default, so a conversion call can't be used to reach into your own internal network or other services on the same host.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Gotenberg?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Gotenberg project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Gotenberg project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
