Grimoire Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Grimoire hosting on xCloud gives you a self-hosted tabletop RPG PDF library on your own domain, so rulebooks, battlemaps, tokens and campaign notes are searchable in one place. Deploy Grimoire and xCloud runs the pinned image as a single container, seeds an admin account with a generated password, mounts persistent volumes for the database and your library, and publishes it over HTTPS in minutes.

What is Grimoire?

Self-hosted Grimoire is a library manager for tabletop RPG content. Upstream's README describes pointing it at a folder of PDFs, maps, tokens, audio and 3D models to get a searchable library you can read from any device, with every page of every book indexed, including scanned ones. It also manages campaigns with character sheets and wiki notes, offers a personal OPDS feed per user, and is licensed GPL-3.0. It organises files you already own, so no content is included.

On xCloud the template runs hunterreadca/grimoire 1.8.0, the default image with Tesseract OCR, as a single container pinned by digest. The grimoire_data volume holds the SQLite database, accounts and caches, and grimoire_library holds your files. The admin account is seeded on first boot with a generated password, and the optional Valkey cache is not included.

From Sign-Up to a Live Library In Just 3 Easy Steps

A self-hosted Grimoire normally means a container, two volumes, an admin account, a domain and a certificate before the first book is uploaded. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Grimoire from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the community Grimoire image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with no separate database, mount the grimoire_data and grimoire_library volumes, generate the admin password and session key, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Add Your Books

Save the admin password from the protected installation credentials and sign in as admin. Upload files into the books, maps, tokens, audio and models folders — created for you, one subfolder per game system — then run a rescan.

A TTRPG PDF Manager: Everything Grimoire Does

Grimoire runs in full here: a searchable tabletop RPG library and campaign manager on your own domain, with your files on a volume you own.

  • Full-Text Book Search

Every page of every PDF is indexed with SQLite FTS5, including scanned books, so you can find a rule from a phone at the table.

  • Books, Maps, Tokens, Audio And Models

One library for PDFs, battlemaps, character tokens, ambient audio and 3D models, organised by game system from the folder structure.

  • Campaigns And Character Sheets

Track GM-run and personal campaigns with character art and sheets, linked resources, scheduling and a Markdown wiki for session notes.

  • Page-By-Page Reader

PDFs are rendered server-side as images for fast mobile viewing, with pinch-to-zoom, swipe navigation, spread mode and per-user bookmarks.

  • Roles For GMs And Players

Create GM and player accounts or guest campaign invites, and restrict a book, system or category to GMs and admins so spoilers stay hidden.

  • Map And Token Editors

Export an image map as a Universal VTT file with walls, doors and lights, and turn any picture into a VTT-ready token.

Everything You Need To Run Your Game Library 24/7

Managed hosting for Grimoire, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Grimoire 1.8.0 deployed instantly
  • Community image pinned by digest
  • Admin password generated for you
  • Uploads up to 8 GB per file
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • Choose your server region
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Grimoire

  • Search your rulebooks mid-session

Look up a rule across every PDF you own from a phone, tablet or the laptop already open at the table, instead of paging through twenty bundles by hand.

  • Run a campaign from one place

Keep the battlemap, token, statblock and last session's notes together, and hide the parts the players should not see.

  • Share a library with your group

Give GMs and players their own accounts and roles, or send guest campaign invites, without handing anyone your server login.

  • Keep a growing collection tidy

Filter by genre, system family, edition and tags, and use an admin scan to find duplicate files for you to review before anything is removed.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Is Grimoire free and open source?

Yes. Grimoire is GPL-3.0 licensed, so the code is open and the app carries no fee. xCloud charges only for the dedicated Cloud VPS. No paid edition is added, and the template ships no game content, so you bring the books, maps and tokens you own.

Can I run Grimoire with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Grimoire Docker hosting without the assembly. It starts the hunterreadca/grimoire 1.8.0 image, pinned by digest, as one container, proxies port 9481 behind HTTPS and mounts the grimoire_data and grimoire_library volumes. Nothing else runs beside it.

How much RAM does Grimoire need?

Grimoire is one container, and its manifest floor is 1 GB of RAM, one core and 10 GB of disk. We pair it with the 6 GB Cloud VPS for a Grimoire cloud install, leaving headroom for a growing library and its search index. Your PDF collection drives disk.

Does Grimoire search inside PDFs?

Yes. Upstream says every page of every PDF is indexed with SQLite full-text search, including scanned books through OCR, and the template image includes the Tesseract engine. You can also find books by title, author or publisher, and maps, tokens and audio by filename or tag.

How do I sign in to Grimoire?

Use the admin username and the generated password from the installation credentials. The account is seeded on first boot, so nobody can claim a setup screen. Changing the password in the environment later has no effect; change it inside Grimoire under Settings.

How do I add my PDFs to Grimoire?

Upload from Grimoire's file manager, with single uploads up to 8 GB, or copy files into the grimoire_library volume. The books, maps, tokens, audio and models folders exist already. Add one folder per game system inside them, then run a rescan so Grimoire indexes the files.

Does Grimoire have an OPDS feed?

Yes. Upstream's README lists an OPDS catalog with a personal feed URL for each user, so an e-reader app can connect straight to your library. Generate the feed URL while signed in, and treat it like a password because it grants access to your books.

Is this the Grimoire bookmark manager?

No. Several unrelated projects share the name Grimoire. This page covers the tabletop RPG library manager from the hunter-read repository, which organises PDFs, maps, tokens, audio and campaigns. If you want a bookmark manager, this is not the app.

How do I back up Grimoire?

Back up both named volumes together: grimoire_data holds the database, accounts and thumbnails, and grimoire_library holds your files. Stop the container before copying, and keep an off-server copy. Grimoire also writes backup archives under Settings, Maintenance, into the data volume.

How do I update Grimoire?

Your install stays on its pinned 1.8.0 version until you adopt a newer template version. Back up grimoire_data first, because database migrations run automatically at startup in newer releases. Read the upstream release notes, adopt the update, then sign in and open an existing book.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
