What is HumHub?

HumHub is an intuitive, modular open-source application used primarily as a social network, knowledge database, intranet or information and communication platform. Its README divides it into users, Spaces, content and modules, and describes it as written in PHP, so self-hosted HumHub is a self-hosted enterprise social network you run on your own server instead of a hosted tool such as Microsoft Viva Engage. The Community Edition is licensed under AGPL-3.0.

What is HumHub used for?

Is HumHub free?

Does HumHub support LDAP login?

What should I back up on a HumHub server?

Take one backup of the humhub_data and humhub_db volumes together, from the same maintenance window. The first holds uploads, modules, configuration and themes; the second holds MariaDB. A database-only backup is not complete. Quiesce writes, keep off-server copies and test a restore.

How do I upgrade HumHub?

Upgrades are not automatic. The template pins HumHub 1.18.5 and MariaDB 11.8.3 by digest, and a catalog re-sync affects new installs only. Review HumHub's release and migration notes, take a coordinated backup, and test the upgrade and restore path before changing either image.

Is HumHub an intranet?

It can serve as one. Its README lists intranet among its main uses, alongside social network and knowledge database, built from Spaces, content and modules. Here it runs on your own domain with a private database, and you decide the registration policy for who may join.

How do I create the first administrator account?

Through HumHub's own installer, not a credential xCloud hands you. Open your HTTPS URL after deployment, confirm the supplied database settings, and create the administrator yourself. No default or generated administrator password exists, so do this right away, before anyone else reaches the site.

Is email set up out of the box?

No. This template does not configure SMTP. Configure trusted SMTP inside HumHub before enabling invitations, password-reset email or any other email-dependent account flow, and restrict public registration to the policy you intend. Until SMTP works, invitations and reset mails will not arrive.

How do I rotate the database password safely?

Change the password inside MariaDB first, then update the matching HumHub and MariaDB values in the Environment editor, redeploy and verify sign-in. Editing only the Environment editor breaks connectivity, so take a backup first and keep the root and application passwords distinct.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
