Kaneo Hosting Live In 5 Minutes
Kaneo hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Kaneo, a self-hosted project management tool with workspaces, projects and Kanban boards, on your own domain. We run the pinned v2.12.1 image beside a private PostgreSQL 16 database, generate the database credentials and signing secret, and publish it over HTTPS. Create your account on first visit, then close public sign-up in Environment, so only invited teammates can join your workspace.

- No lock-in, cancel anytime
What is Kaneo?
Self-hosted Kaneo is an MIT-licensed project management tool. Upstream built it as a deliberate contrast to bloated platforms: a clean interface, fast performance and only the features that solve a real problem. You organise work in workspaces and projects, track tasks on Kanban boards, discuss them in comments, and connect integrations. It is a lightweight alternative to hosted tools such as Linear and Jira.
On xCloud the template deploys the official Kaneo v2.12.1 combined web and API image alongside PostgreSQL 16, both pinned by digest, on a private network with no database port published. Users, workspaces, projects, tasks and comments live in the kaneo_db_data volume. Database credentials and the session signing secret are generated for you, and Kaneo runs its migrations when the API starts.
From Sign-Up to a Live Kaneo In Just 3 Easy Steps
A Kaneo server normally means an app container, a PostgreSQL database, generated secrets, a data volume, a domain and a certificate before the first task. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick Kaneo from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and server — the install has no required fields because the database and secrets are generated.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We start Kaneo v2.12.1 with a private PostgreSQL 16 database kept off the public internet, mount the kaneo_db_data volume, generate the credentials and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Create Your Account
Open your URL and create the first account straight away, because sign-up is open to anyone who finds it. Then set DISABLE_REGISTRATION=true, redeploy, and add a workspace, a project and your first task.
Everything Kaneo Does, On Your Own Server
The project management features upstream documents run here, with workspaces and tasks stored in a database you own.
Workspaces And Projects
Each sign-up gets an isolated account and workspace. Create projects inside it and invite teammates, who can then see that workspace and nobody else's.
Kanban Boards And Tasks
Add a task to a project and move it across the board as work progresses, with task details kept in PostgreSQL rather than a spreadsheet.
Comments On Tasks
Discuss work where it lives. Comments stay attached to the task, so the history of a decision remains next to the card it affected.
Invite-Only After Setup
Registration is open at install. Set DISABLE_REGISTRATION=true in the environment editor and new accounts then need a valid workspace invitation.
Optional Integrations
Kaneo supports SMTP, OAuth, GitHub integrations, webhooks and notification providers. The template configures none of them, so add them from upstream's documentation.
Migrations Run Automatically
Kaneo applies its own database migrations when the API starts, and the browser talks to the API on the same HTTPS origin under /api.

What You Can Do With Kaneo
Run a product backlog on a Kanban board
A small product team keeps its backlog, in-progress work and done column in one workspace and moves cards as they ship, without a heavyweight process around it.
Keep client projects separate
An agency creates a project per client inside a workspace and invites only the people who work on it, so tasks and comments stay with the right team.
Replace a hosted tracker with your own
A team leaving a hosted tool such as Linear or Jira moves its day-to-day tasks to a server it controls, with data in a PostgreSQL volume it can back up itself.
Plan personal and side projects
A solo developer keeps tasks and notes for several side projects on a private board, with sign-up closed once their own account exists.
Kaneo vs Alternatives
- Linear
- A hosted issue tracker. Kaneo on xCloud runs on a Cloud VPS you control, with workspaces, Kanban boards and comments in your own PostgreSQL database and a deliberately small feature set.
- Jira
- Jira is a commercial project tracker. Kaneo keeps to boards, tasks and comments, and trades breadth for simplicity; the data sits in your kaneo_db_data volume instead of a vendor's cloud.
- Plane
- Plane has its own xCloud page. Kaneo's README describes a less-is-more approach, where every feature exists because it solves a real problem, so compare that minimal scope with your team's needs.
- Vikunja
- Vikunja has its own xCloud page. Kaneo organises work as workspaces, projects and Kanban boards with comments on each task, under the MIT licence, with its data in your own PostgreSQL volume.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Gary MoodyxCloud gave me what no other hosting platform could: the flexibility of a VPS with the convenience of managed WordPress. As a solo founder running an entire business on one server, that combination is an important unfair advantage.
Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Is Kaneo free?
Yes. Kaneo is open source under the MIT licence, so there is no licence fee for Kaneo; the monthly cost is the Cloud VPS. Kaneo cloud, upstream's own hosted service, is separate from this template and not required to use it.
How do I self-host Kaneo with Docker?
The template does it for you. It runs the official Kaneo v2.12.1 image with PostgreSQL 16 under Docker Compose, mounts the kaneo_db_data volume, generates the secrets and adds your domain and HTTPS. Kaneo Docker hosting here means no Compose file or .env to edit by hand.
Does Kaneo need PostgreSQL?
Yes, and the template provides it. A PostgreSQL 16 Alpine container runs beside Kaneo on a private network with no published host port, and xCloud generates the database name, user and password. Its data lives in the kaneo_db_data volume, which holds your users, workspaces, projects and tasks.
What is the difference between Kaneo and Plane?
Both are self-hosted project management tools, and xCloud has a OneClick page for each. Kaneo's README stresses a clean interface and only features that solve a real problem: workspaces, projects, Kanban boards, tasks and comments. Compare that scope against your team's needs using each project's own documentation.
Is Kaneo a good Linear alternative?
It can be if you want boards, tasks and comments without extra process, on a server you control. Kaneo is deliberately minimal, so check that the features your team relies on in Linear exist before moving. Uploads, SMTP and OAuth need extra configuration after install.
Does Kaneo support time tracking?
This page does not claim it. The template's description and Kaneo's README list workspaces, projects, Kanban boards, tasks, comments and integrations, and neither mentions time tracking. If you need it, check Kaneo's own documentation for the pinned v2.12.1 release before choosing it for that.
How do I back up Kaneo?
Back up the kaneo_db_data volume, or take a PostgreSQL logical dump with pg_dump from the installed site directory, a backup you can restore elsewhere. The database holds users, workspaces, projects, tasks, comments and settings. If you later add external S3 storage, back up the database and the bucket together, and test a restore.
How do I update Kaneo?
There is no automatic update. Kaneo v2.12.1 and PostgreSQL stay pinned by digest on an existing site, since catalog changes reach fresh installs alone. Back up PostgreSQL, change the app version and image digest together, test the migrations on a disposable copy, and never rename the volume or run docker compose down -v.
Is public sign-up open on a new Kaneo install?
Yes. There is no first-user lockdown, so anyone who reaches the URL can create an account and an isolated workspace of their own. After you create yours, set DISABLE_REGISTRATION=true in the environment editor and redeploy, so new accounts need a valid workspace invitation.
Can I attach files to Kaneo tasks?
Not in this baseline. Image and file uploads in task descriptions and comments need an external S3-compatible service that your browser can reach, with a private bucket and CORS set for your Kaneo origin. The template does not provision object storage, so configure it after install if you need it.
What are the server requirements?
Kaneo declares a minimum of 1 GB RAM, one CPU core and 5 GB disk. Database and disk use grow with users, projects, comments, task history and integrations, and the 6 GB tier sold here comfortably carries Kaneo plus its PostgreSQL container.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
