What is Redmine?

Redmine is a free, open-source project management and issue-tracking application — projects, configurable workflows, roadmaps, wikis and time tracking with role-based access. This template deploys version 6.1.1.

Is Redmine free?

Yes — Redmine is free and open source under the GNU General Public License version 2 (or later). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.

Can I self-host Redmine?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Redmine image alongside a private PostgreSQL database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts two persistent volumes, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?

Redmine's image ships a built-in "admin" account with a known upstream default password. xCloud replaces that password with a generated 24-character one and sets the account's email to the address you submitted during installation, before reporting the install complete — so nobody signs in with the upstream default. Your generated password is shown once in the Credentials panel.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

A private PostgreSQL database with generated credentials, a 64-character Redmine secret key, the default admin password rotation, the domain, and the HTTPS route. Only Redmine is published — PostgreSQL stays private on the internal network.

Is email/SMTP set up for me?

No. Configure SMTP inside Redmine's Administration settings before inviting users or relying on password-reset email — nothing in this template sets up outbound mail automatically.

What should I back up?

redmine_files and redmine_db together, from the same point in time: redmine_files holds uploaded attachments and repository files, while redmine_db holds your projects, issues, workflows and settings. A database-only backup leaves your attachments behind.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Redmine?

No. The template pins Redmine and PostgreSQL by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing any pinned image, back up both volumes together, review Redmine's migration and plugin compatibility notes, then verify sign-in, projects, issues, attachments and background jobs afterward.

Can I change the database or secret key values after installation?

Not independently. POSTGRES_PASSWORD initializes PostgreSQL and Redmine reads it on every boot — changing it alone breaks database access; rotate it in PostgreSQL first, then update the matching environment value. REDMINE_SECRET_KEY_BASE must stay stable, since changing it invalidates sessions and can break encrypted application data.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor for Redmine alongside PostgreSQL. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, sitting right at that floor with real headroom to grow into as projects and attachments accumulate.

What survives a restart?

Everything on redmine_files and redmine_db, because both are persistent named volumes. Restarting the containers or running an xCloud lifecycle action does not touch your projects, issues, attachments or settings.

Can I change my domain later?

You can, but plan for it — update Redmine's host/protocol settings under Administration afterward and re-check anywhere the old URL was shared, since links to issues, wiki pages and attachments embed the domain.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Redmine?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Redmine project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Redmine project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
