What is Kimai?

Kimai is a free, open-source, multi-user time-tracking platform for customers, projects, activities, timesheets, reports and invoices. This template deploys version 2.65.0.

Is Kimai free?

Yes — it is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.

Can I self-host Kimai?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Kimai 2.65.0 image alongside a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts its persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

How do I sign in?

As admin@your-domain, with a 32-character password xCloud generates during installation and shows once in your credential panel. The install form itself has no fields to fill in beyond site title and domain.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The 64-character app secret, the administrator password, a private MariaDB database, the persistent kimai_data, kimai_plugins and kimai_db volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the Kimai web interface is published through xCloud-managed HTTPS — MariaDB stays private to the internal network.

Does Kimai send emails out of the box?

No. The baseline mailer transport is null and sends no external email. Configure a complete, supported SMTP transport through the Environment editor before relying on password reset, invoice delivery or other email-driven workflows.

What should I back up?

The kimai_data, kimai_plugins and kimai_db volumes together, along with the APP_SECRET value. Use an application-consistent database dump, keep off-server copies, and test restoration before relying on the backup.

Can I change the app secret?

Keep APP_SECRET stable — rotating it can invalidate existing sessions and signed tokens. If you do need to rotate it, update it in the Environment editor, restart the application, and expect users to sign in again.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Kimai?

No. The template pins Kimai 2.65.0 and MariaDB 11.8.3 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Back up all three volumes and APP_SECRET, review Kimai release and migration notes, and never remove the named volumes during an upgrade.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 2 GB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor for MariaDB running alongside the application.

What survives a restart?

Everything on kimai_data, kimai_plugins and kimai_db, because all three are persistent named volumes. A restart does not touch your customers, projects, timesheets, installed plugins or database.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Kimai?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Kimai project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Kimai project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
