Karakeep Hosting Live In 5 Minutes
Karakeep hosting on xCloud gives you a self-hosted bookmark manager that keeps a searchable copy and a screenshot of every page you save, on a server you own. Deploy Karakeep from the OneClick catalog and xCloud starts the pinned app beside a headless Chrome and a private Meilisearch index, generates the secrets, mounts two persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain.

- No lock-in, cancel anytime
What is Karakeep?
Karakeep, previously Hoarder, is a self-hostable bookmark-everything app, so self-hosted Karakeep is a self-hosted bookmark manager you run instead of a read-later service such as Pocket or Raindrop.io. Its README lists links, simple notes, images and PDFs, full-text and semantic search, full-page archival against link rot, OCR, lists, a rule-based engine, importers, browser extensions and mobile apps. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
On xCloud this template deploys Karakeep 0.33.2 with the vendor Chrome image for screenshots and Meilisearch 1.41.0 for search, all pinned by digest. The karakeep_data volume holds the SQLite database, archived assets and screenshots, and karakeep_search holds the index. HTTPS is on your domain. The optional AI, SMTP and OAuth integrations are intentionally left out of this template, so you add them yourself if needed.
From Sign-Up to a Live Karakeep In Just 3 Easy Steps
Running Karakeep yourself means the app, a headless Chrome, a search service, two volumes, secrets, a domain and a certificate before the first bookmark is saved. Here the install form has no fields at all.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick Karakeep from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and server; there are no other fields, because xCloud generates the NextAuth and Meilisearch secrets.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We start the pinned Karakeep 0.33.2 image with a Chrome container and Meilisearch 1.41.0, both private with no host ports, mount karakeep_data and karakeep_search, and publish the app over HTTPS.
Step 03
Register, Close Sign-Ups, Save
Register the first account, set DISABLE_SIGNUPS=true in the Environment editor and redeploy to close registration, then save a test URL and check its content and screenshot.
Everything Karakeep Does, On Your Own Server
This template runs Karakeep with a Chrome container for screenshots and a private Meilisearch index, and deliberately leaves out the optional AI integrations.
Links, Notes, Images And PDFs
Bookmark links, take simple notes and store images and PDFs in one archive, with titles, descriptions and images fetched automatically for links.
Full Page Archiving
Karakeep archives full pages to protect against link rot, so research stays readable after the original link changes or disappears.
Page Screenshots
A bundled headless Chrome container captures screenshots and crawls JavaScript-driven pages that a plain fetch would miss.
Full-Text Search
A private Meilisearch index searches everything you have saved. It publishes no port, and the index can be rebuilt from the data volume.
Lists, Rules And Sharing
Sort bookmarks into lists, collaborate with others on the same list, and use the rule-based engine for custom management.
Importers, Extensions And Apps
Import from Chrome, Pocket, Linkwarden and Omnivore, and use the browser extensions and iOS and Android apps with your own server's address.
Everything You Need To Run Your Karakeep 24/7
Dedicated server hosting for Karakeep, so the machine under your archive is not your problem.
- Karakeep 0.33.2 deployed instantly
- Images pinned by immutable digest
- Secrets generated for you
- Chrome and search kept private
- Free SSL certificate
- Docker app backups you schedule
- 30+ server locations
- Unused balance refunded
What You Can Do With Karakeep
Keep a read-later list you actually own
A reader saves articles from a phone or browser extension into their own Karakeep server, and finds them again later with full-text search instead of scrolling a hosted app's list.
Archive research that might disappear
A researcher or journalist saves pages with full-page archival and screenshots, so sources stay readable and checkable after the original site changes or goes offline.
Move your Pocket or Chrome bookmarks home
Someone leaving a hosted bookmarking service imports their bookmarks from Pocket, Chrome, Linkwarden or Omnivore into Karakeep and keeps the archive on a server they rent.
Share a reading list with a small group
A team or household collaborates on the same list, adding links and notes that everyone can search, with accounts that an administrator controls by closing public sign-ups.
Karakeep vs Alternatives
- Pocket was a hosted read-later service, and Karakeep's README lists it as shut down and says its author used it before building Karakeep; and on xCloud the archive, screenshots and search index sit on volumes of a server you control.
- Raindrop.io
- Raindrop.io is a hosted bookmark service. Karakeep is AGPL-3.0 software you run yourself, with importers, a REST API, browser extensions and mobile apps pointed at your own domain.
- Linkwarden
- Linkwarden is another self-hosted bookmark manager with its own OneClick page, so it is a different server and interface. Choose this template when you want Karakeep's lists, rules and page screenshots.
- Wallabag
- Wallabag is a separate self-hosted read-later app with its own OneClick page and its own approach. Pick Karakeep when you want bookmarks, notes, images and archived pages in one searchable place.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.
Karl FanegaHow Advanced Web Strategies Saved Over $2,000 & Recovered 56 Hours per Month Managing 70+ Client Websites
Gary MoodyxCloud gave me what no other hosting platform could: the flexibility of a VPS with the convenience of managed WordPress. As a solo founder running an entire business on one server, that combination is an important unfair advantage.
Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Is Karakeep the same as Hoarder?
Yes. Upstream's README says Karakeep was previously named Hoarder, and the project is the same self-hostable bookmark-everything app. Some older guides, apps and package names still say Hoarder. This template deploys the Karakeep 0.33.2 release under its current name.
How do I self-host Karakeep with Docker?
This Karakeep Docker hosting template does it for you: the official Karakeep image, the vendor Chrome image and Meilisearch, all pinned by digest, run under Docker Compose on your own Cloud VPS, not a Karakeep cloud account. Only the app is published, through HTTPS on your domain.
How much RAM does Karakeep need?
The template manifest asks for 3072 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor, and notes that concurrent crawling, screenshots and large archives can need more. This page sells the 6 GB tier, which leaves about 3 GB of headroom above that floor.
How do I update Karakeep?
Updates are not automatic. The template pins Karakeep, Chrome and Meilisearch by immutable digest, and catalog synchronization never upgrades existing installs. Back up both volumes, read the Karakeep and Meilisearch migration notes, then recreate containers without deleting volumes. A Meilisearch version change can require an index rebuild.
What should I back up for Karakeep?
Include both volumes in your backup: karakeep_data (the SQLite database, archived assets and screenshots) and karakeep_search (the Meilisearch index). The data volume is authoritative and the index can be rebuilt, but keeping both gives the fastest recovery. Store copies off the server and test a restore.
Is Karakeep free and open source?
Yes. Karakeep is licensed under AGPL-3.0, linked from this page at the pinned v0.33.2 tag, and this template deploys the unmodified official images. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS under it, not for Karakeep, and the software adds no per-user fee.
Can I import my Pocket bookmarks into Karakeep?
Yes. Upstream's README lists bookmark importers for Chrome, Pocket, Linkwarden, Omnivore and Tab Session Manager. Run the import from inside the app after you have registered your account, then check a few archived pages. Imports can add load, so watch memory while they run.
Does Karakeep work with Ollama for tagging?
Upstream supports LLM-based tagging and summaries, including local models through Ollama, but this template does not include them. The OpenAI and Ollama integrations are left out, so nothing is sent to an AI provider unless you add that configuration yourself in the Environment editor.
Are there Karakeep mobile apps and browser extensions?
Yes. Upstream's README lists Chrome, Firefox and Safari extensions and iOS and Android apps. They connect to a server address, so point them at your own HTTPS domain. This page does not test them against this template, so confirm sign-in on your device.
Is public registration open?
Yes, for first-run setup only. Register the intended first account, then set DISABLE_SIGNUPS=true in the Environment editor and redeploy to close registration. Archived pages can hold sensitive material, so keep that window short and protect the account you create.
What runs alongside Karakeep?
A headless Chrome container for screenshots and JavaScript crawling, and Meilisearch for full-text search. Neither publishes a host port, and both stay private on the install's network. Keep NEXTAUTH_SECRET and MEILI_MASTER_KEY stable, because changing them breaks sessions or the search service.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
