What is LazyLibrarian?

LazyLibrarian is a program to follow authors and grab metadata for all your digital reading needs. It uses a combination of Hardcover, OpenLibrary, LibraryThing and Goodreads, and optionally Google Books, as sources for author and book information.

You list all of an author's books and mark ebooks or audiobooks as wanted. LazyLibrarian then searches for an NZB file, torrent or magnet link and, if one is found, sends it to a download client or saves it where your client can pick it up. It is released under the GNU GPL v3.

From Sign-Up to a Live Library Manager In Just 3 Easy Steps

A LazyLibrarian install normally means a container, three volumes, a web login, a domain and a certificate before the first author is added. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick LazyLibrarian from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server, then set the web username, the web password (generated if you leave it empty) and the timezone.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the LinuxServer.io LazyLibrarian image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with no database sidecar, mount the lazylibrarian_config, lazylibrarian_downloads and lazylibrarian_books volumes, write your web login into its settings on first start, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Add Your First Author

Open your HTTPS LazyLibrarian URL and sign in with the username and password on the installation credentials card (the first start takes about a minute). Under Config, add a download client, your indexers and a metadata source, then add your first author or book.

Everything LazyLibrarian Does, On Your Own Server

LazyLibrarian runs in full here: a book, audiobook and magazine tracker on your own domain, with its settings, database and library on volumes you own.

  • Authors, Series And Wanted Lists

Find authors, list all of their books and mark ebooks or audiobooks as wanted, so the app knows what to go and look for.

  • Your Download Clients

A match is sent to a download client you connect: SABnzbd, NZBGet, Deluge, Transmission, uTorrent, qBittorrent, rTorrent or Synology Download Station, or saved to a black hole folder your client watches.

  • Magazines As Well As Books

LazyLibrarian can also search for and download magazines and monitor for new issues.

  • Metadata And Cover Art

Finished books are processed with a cover picture, when available, and their metadata saved in a Calibre-compatible metadata.opf next to the book file.

  • Calibre Import And AutoAdd

Import an existing Calibre library (Calibre itself is optional), or use the AutoAdd feature for book tools that need a flattened directory structure.

  • Works On Smaller Screens

The web interface theme can be used from devices with a smaller screen, such as a tablet.

What You Can Do With LazyLibrarian

  • Follow authors and series

Add the authors you read and keep a wanted list of their ebooks and audiobooks in one place.

  • Keep up with magazines

Track the magazines you follow and monitor for new issues alongside your books.

  • Hand matches to your own download clients

Connect your own download clients and indexers or torrent sites under Config, and let LazyLibrarian pass matches along.

  • Grow a library you can move

Imported books land in a dedicated books volume on your server, with metadata saved next to each file, so the library is yours to copy elsewhere.

LazyLibrarian vs Alternatives

Calibre
An ebook library manager. LazyLibrarian can import an existing Calibre library and has an AutoAdd feature for Calibre, per its upstream README; Calibre is optional.
Audiobookshelf
A self-hosted audiobook and podcast server with multi-user streaming and mobile clients. xCloud also offers it as a OneClick app.
Kavita
A self-hosted reading server for manga, comics and ebooks with web readers and reading lists. xCloud also offers it as a OneClick app.
Goodreads
A hosted book-tracking service. Upstream notes LazyLibrarian used Goodreads for author and book information, and that its API has been shut down, so Hardcover and OpenLibrary are suggested instead.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul Singh
So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo Villa
Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I sign in?

Use the username and password on the installation credentials card; the browser asks for them. The password is generated if you leave it empty at install.

Does it download books by itself?

No. LazyLibrarian does not download anything on its own. Add your own download client and indexers or torrent sites under Config first, then choose a metadata source.

What runs alongside LazyLibrarian?

Nothing. It is one container with an embedded SQLite database, so there is no database sidecar to maintain.

Is the web interface protected?

Yes. A generated username and password are written into the app's settings on first start, so the interface is not open to visitors. The QA run confirmed that requests with no credentials or wrong credentials are rejected, including after a restart.

Are the API and RSS feed protected by the sign-in?

No. The API stays off until you enable it, and the API and RSS endpoints are not covered by the web sign-in, so leave them disabled unless you need them.

How do I change the login later?

Under Config > Web Server in LazyLibrarian. The install-time username and password are only written to the settings file on the first start with an empty config volume, so editing them afterwards has no effect.

Where is the password stored?

In plain text in the app's config.ini on the server volume, and it is echoed in the container logs at start (upstream behaviour). Only the server owner can read them.

What should I back up?

All three volumes together: lazylibrarian_config (settings, SQLite database, logs), lazylibrarian_downloads (completed downloads before import) and lazylibrarian_books (the imported library). Stop the container first.

What survives a restart?

Settings, the database, downloads and the library, because they are persistent named volumes that survive an xCloud Restart.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update LazyLibrarian?

No. The template pins LazyLibrarian 2026.09.19 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 130-150 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, which leaves headroom above that baseline for the library and downloads volumes.

Is xCloud officially partnered with LazyLibrarian?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the LazyLibrarian project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source LazyLibrarian project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
