Obscura hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Obscura, a lightweight headless browser, as a remote endpoint that Puppeteer and Playwright scripts connect to. xCloud runs the pinned Obscura 0.2.4 image behind a small Caddy gateway, generates a 64-character access token, and publishes the CDP WebSocket over HTTPS on your domain. It has no web interface; your scripts are the clients.
Obscura is a lightweight headless browser engine written in Rust. It runs page JavaScript in V8 and speaks the Chrome DevTools Protocol, and upstream positions it as a drop-in replacement for headless Chrome with Puppeteer and Playwright, for web scraping and AI agents. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted Obscura, a remote headless browser your scripts reach over a WebSocket instead of a hosted browser service such as Browserless. It is licensed under Apache-2.0.
On xCloud the template deploys Obscura 0.2.4 from a community image pinned by digest, with a small Caddy gateway as the only published service. There is no database and no volume, so browser state is not kept across restarts. Every request needs the generated bearer token, and pages cannot reach private or internal addresses unless you change that setting.
Self-hosting a remote headless browser normally means a gateway, a domain, a certificate and an access token before a single script can connect. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Choose Obscura Browser from the xCloud OneClick catalog and select a domain. There are no extra fields — xCloud generates the credentials.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the pinned Obscura 0.2.4 image behind a small Caddy gateway and publish the CDP endpoint over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Save the access token, then point Puppeteer, Playwright or another CDP client at the wss:// endpoint shown in the credentials, sending the token as an Authorization Bearer header.
Obscura runs in full here — the same remote CDP browser tooling as any hosted scraping or automation service, on infrastructure you control.
Connect to a remote headless browser over a secure WebSocket for scraping, rendering and automation jobs.
Measured about 15-18 MB of memory at idle and after a simple page round-trip.
A 64-character access token is generated at install; unauthenticated and wrong-token requests are refused.
A built-in guard blocks navigation to private, link-local and cloud-metadata addresses by default.
Sessions are ephemeral — nothing is kept across an xCloud Restart, and there is no data to lose.
Run scraping, page rendering and automation jobs that should not run on your own machine.
Managed hosting for Obscura, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
A developer points a Puppeteer or Playwright script at the remote endpoint so pages that need JavaScript are rendered on the server, not on a laptop.
Run long scraping and page-rendering jobs on a dedicated Cloud VPS, so they do not compete with your desktop for memory or a stable connection.
Share a single wss:// address and token across CI jobs and scripts, and rotate the token in one place when someone leaves.
Run jobs that load untrusted pages with private, link-local and cloud-metadata addresses blocked by default.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Jorge de los Reyes MartínezI use Server Avatar and xCloud and I'll sooner use xCloud than Server Avatar personally.

Yes. Obscura is released under Apache-2.0, so the engine carries no licence fee. The only cost is the Cloud VPS that hosts it and its Caddy gateway, which does the work of rendering the pages your scripts request.
The manifest floor is 512 MB RAM, one core and 2 GB disk. We sell the 6 GB tier for concurrent browser sessions; QA measured only about 15-18 MB idle, but each open page and its V8 heap adds to that.
Yes, and this template is Obscura Docker hosting without the setup: the 0.2.4 image pinned by digest runs on a private network behind a Caddy gateway, with a generated token and HTTPS on your domain. Only the gateway is published.
Connect Puppeteer to the wss:// endpoint from your credentials and send the token as an Authorization Bearer header. Use the WebSocket address directly, because the HTTP discovery routes advertise an internal address that clients outside the server cannot reach.
Upstream describes it as a drop-in replacement for headless Chrome with Puppeteer and Playwright, but also notes its engine may differ from Chromium on long-tail CSS, some Web APIs and font rendering. Test your own scripts before you rely on it.
Every request needs the bearer token, and requests carrying an Origin header from a web page are refused. Anyone holding the token can drive the browser and make the server fetch pages, so keep it private and rotate it in the environment if it leaks.
Not by default. Private, link-local and cloud-metadata addresses are blocked, so a page cannot reach services on this server. Private-network access is an optional environment setting; leave it off unless you need it, because it exposes internal services.
No. The install has no volumes, so cookies, localStorage and sessions are not kept across a restart. There is nothing persistent to back up except your own copy of the access token and any environment settings you changed.
You remain on Obscura 0.2.4 until you adopt a newer template version. With no volume to copy, keep a note of any environment values you changed and your access token, then read upstream's release notes. After a redeploy, every client reconnects with the same token.
No. It only serves the CDP control plane, so opening the address in a normal browser shows nothing useful. You drive it from Puppeteer, Playwright or another CDP client, authenticating with the generated token instead of an account.
No. This page gives you a private Obscura on a dedicated Cloud VPS that you control, running the open-source engine. It is not Obscura Cloud, the hosted version upstream says it is working on, so no third party sits between your scripts and the browser, and you hold the access token yourself.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
