What is OpenPanel?
OpenPanel is a free, open-source, self-hosted product and web analytics platform — an open-source alternative to Mixpanel — with events, funnels, retention, cohorts, profiles and a live dashboard. This template deploys version 2.3.0.
Is OpenPanel free?
Yes — OpenPanel is free and open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.
Is this the same as the hosted openpanel.dev service?
No. This deploys the self-hosted OpenPanel, an open-source codebase you run yourself — not the hosted openpanel.dev service.
Can I self-host OpenPanel?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the dashboard, API and worker images alongside private PostgreSQL, ClickHouse and Redis services, all pinned by immutable digest, mounts three persistent volumes and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I sign in?
There is no default account or generated password. Open /onboarding on your domain after installation and register the first account yourself — OpenPanel always lets this first registration through and makes you the owner.
Can other people register an account?
Not by default. The template ships with ALLOW_REGISTRATION=false, and OpenPanel closes public sign-up automatically the moment the owner account exists — a second registration attempt is rejected server-side. The owner can still invite teammates, since ALLOW_INVITATION=true.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The cookie secret, the PostgreSQL and Redis passwords, all three persistent volumes, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only the gateway is published through xCloud-managed ingress — the dashboard, API, worker, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse and Redis stay private.
Does OpenPanel send invitation or password-reset emails?
No, not initially. SMTP is deployment-specific, so this template ships without it — invitations, password resets and notifications are written to the API container log until you set SMTP_HOST, SMTP_PORT, SMTP_USER, SMTP_PASS and EMAIL_SENDER (or RESEND_API_KEY) in the Environment editor and redeploy.
What should I back up?
All three volumes together, from one coordinated window: openpanel_postgres_data (accounts, organizations, projects and configuration), openpanel_clickhouse_data (events, sessions and profiles) and openpanel_redis_data (session and queue state). Treat them as one application-consistent set.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update OpenPanel?
No. The template pins OpenPanel and its dependency images by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review OpenPanel's release notes and back up all three volumes before updating an existing installation — the API runs its database migrations on every start, so a rollback can require restoring the pre-upgrade volumes.
How do I rotate the PostgreSQL or Redis password?
Change the credential inside PostgreSQL or Redis first, then update the matching value in the Environment editor and redeploy — not the other way around.
What are the server requirements, and why the 16 GB tier?
The template manifest asks for 3072 MB of RAM as a floor — chosen because a nominal 4 GB VPS reports around 3910 MB to the server monitor, and a 4096 MB floor would reject every real 4 GB server. Measured on a QA install, the seven containers used 2258 MB resident at idle with one project and three events, before any real event volume, ClickHouse merges or retention — which is why this page sells the 16 GB tier rather than the 6 GB tier lighter OneClick apps use.
Are the queue monitor, AI assistant or Slack integration included?
No. The queue monitor (Bull Board) is disabled in this template because it would need a second hostname. The in-app AI assistant and Slack integration are optional OpenPanel features that require your own third-party API keys and bill separately — neither is configured here.
Is xCloud officially partnered with OpenPanel?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the OpenPanel project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source OpenPanel project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
