What is Pastefy?
Pastefy is an open-source, self-hosted paste-sharing application — a browser interface for sharing code, logs, notes and other text, with syntax highlighting, expiration controls and optional client-side encryption. This template deploys version 7.2.6.
Is Pastefy free?
Yes — Pastefy is free and open source under the MIT License. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host Pastefy?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Pastefy image alongside a private MariaDB database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts a persistent volume, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Do I need an account to create or read a paste?
No, not by default. Guest paste creation and reading are enabled out of the box, and pastes are unlisted rather than publicly listed. Sign-in uses optional external OAuth providers, which you can configure yourself if you want to require accounts.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
A private MariaDB database with generated credentials, automatic schema migration on boot, the domain, and the HTTPS route. Only Pastefy itself is published — MariaDB stays private to the internal network.
Is an administrator account generated for me?
No. Pastefy's account sign-in uses optional external OAuth providers, and this template does not fabricate credentials for one. Only the application URL appears in the post-install Credentials panel — there is no admin username or password to collect.
Are unlisted links the same as access control?
No. An unlisted link is access-by-link, not identity-based authorization — anyone with the URL can open it. Share unlisted and encrypted paste links only through channels you trust, and apply expiration where appropriate.
What does client-side encryption protect?
Client-side encryption can protect a paste's contents from anyone who doesn't have the decryption key, but you should still apply sensible expiration and link-handling practices — encryption is not a substitute for controlling who receives the link.
What should I back up?
The pastefy_db volume, with an application-consistent MariaDB backup. It holds accounts, paste metadata and paste content together — treat it as one recovery point and test the restore as a complete transaction.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Pastefy?
No. The template pins Pastefy and MariaDB by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Review upstream release notes, take a coordinated backup of pastefy_db, and test a restore before changing either pinned image.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 1 GB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor for Pastefy alongside MariaDB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that floor for paste volume, retention and database growth.
What survives a restart?
Everything on pastefy_db, because it is a persistent named volume. Restarting the containers does not touch your accounts, pastes or metadata.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Pastefy?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Pastefy project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Pastefy project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
