What is Pastefy?

Pastefy is a self-hosted paste sharing app that upstream calls an open-source alternative to Gists or Pastebin. You paste code or text, get a share link, and can add syntax highlighting, expiry and optional client-side encryption, with previews for formats such as Markdown, Mermaid and CSV. A self-hosted Pastefy replaces a public pastebin such as Pastebin for teams that do not want snippets on someone else's server, under the MIT licence.

On xCloud it is Pastefy 7.2.6 with a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database on the pastefy_db volume, both pinned by digest. xCloud generates the database credentials and serves the app over HTTPS. Can you self-host Pastefy with Docker?

Yes. Upstream supports Docker, and this template is Pastefy Docker hosting without the Compose work: the 7.2.6 image and MariaDB 11.8.3 pinned by digest, a persistent pastefy_db volume, generated credentials and HTTPS on your domain.

How much RAM does Pastefy need?

The manifest asks for 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk. The 6 GB plan sits well above that, and paste size, retention and traffic decide how much disk the database needs over time.

Does Pastefy need a database?

Yes, and the template provides one. A private MariaDB 11.8.3 container runs beside Pastefy with no host port, and xCloud generates its name, user and passwords, so you never install or expose a database yourself.

Can anyone create pastes on my Pastefy server?

Yes, by default. Guest paste creation is enabled, so anyone who can reach the domain can post. Use private or encrypted pastes for non-public content, and put access controls and rate limiting in front if only your team should use it.

Can I log in to Pastefy with OAuth?

Pastefy's documented sign-in uses external OAuth providers, and this template supplies none. Add credentials you own in the Environment editor and redeploy before you turn on any login-required settings, because the template fabricates none for you.

Does Pastefy have an API?

Yes. Upstream documents an API with JavaScript, Java and Go clients, and a curl upload that creates a paste from a file. The API is served from your own domain, subject to the same access settings as the site.

Is Pastefy open source?

Yes. Pastefy is distributed under the MIT licence, so the app itself is free to run. Your cost is the Cloud VPS underneath, which makes this a Pastefy cloud of your own rather than a hosted pastebin account.

How do I back up Pastefy?

Back up the whole pastefy_db volume with an application-consistent MariaDB backup, since it holds accounts, paste metadata and paste content. Restore the volume and database credentials together, then open a known paste to verify it.

How do I upgrade Pastefy?

The install stays on its pinned 7.2.6 image until you adopt a newer template version. Stop writes, take and test a database backup, and read the upstream migration notes first. Nothing upgrades the app automatically.

Can I change the database passwords in the environment?

Not by editing them alone. Rotate the matching account inside MariaDB first, update both the Pastefy and MariaDB password values, then redeploy. Back up the pastefy_db volume before you start, since a wrong password change can lock the app out of its own database.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
