What is DashLit?

DashLit is an open-source, self-hosted dashboard for your links and services. You organise them into several dashboards and groups, search icons from selfh.st and Iconify, and see live availability for the services you link to.

It ships as a Go server with the Svelte interface embedded, so it runs as a single container with an embedded SQLite database. Dashboards can be public, available to signed-in users, or private, and sign-in works with a local password, OIDC, or both.

How do I sign in?

Use the administrator username you chose at install (admin by default) and the generated password shown in the protected installation credentials.

Can anyone register?

No. Open sign-up is off by default: in QA a sign-up request returned 403 and a wrong password was rejected. You can enable registration or OIDC in the Environment editor.

What runs alongside DashLit?

Nothing. It is a single container with an embedded SQLite database, and only a loopback port is published.

Does DashLit support single sign-on?

Yes, optionally. DashLit supports OIDC. The settings are listed, commented out, in the environment file; set the issuer and client ID together and use your public https address plus /api/auth/oidc/callback as the redirect URL.

Are public dashboards safe to share?

A dashboard set to public can be read by anyone who knows the address, without signing in, and only signed-in users can change it. Link status checks on a public dashboard are made by the server and can be triggered by anyone who can view it, so keep internal addresses off public dashboards.

Is the site public by default?

The address is reachable by anyone, but private dashboards are hidden from signed-out visitors (in QA an anonymous request returned an empty list and anonymous writes were refused). Dashboards you set to public are readable by anyone. The template does not enable HTTP Basic Auth; if the site should not be reachable by everyone, you can add it at your own access layer.

What should I back up?

The dashlit-data volume, which holds the database, uploaded icons and icon cache, and the JWT_SECRET value. Keep the generated password private.

Backups in xCloud

Can I change the admin password later?

Change it inside DashLit. The initial admin variables only create the account on the first start, so editing them later does not rename it or reset the password.

What does changing JWT_SECRET do?

JWT_SECRET signs login sessions, so changing it signs every user out.

Does icon search need internet access?

Icon search contacts iconify.design and selfh.st from the server. Without outbound access it stops working and nothing else is affected.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update DashLit?

No. The template pins DashLit v1.1.3 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release, existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 4 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier because it is the entry rung of the Cloud VPS family, with ample headroom above that baseline.

What survives a restart?

Dashboards, groups and links on the dashlit-data volume — in QA they were still present after an xCloud Restart, and the administrator login still worked.

Is xCloud officially partnered with DashLit?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the DashLit project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source DashLit project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
