You point it at your photos and it shows your folder structure as it is, treating the photo folder as read-only so it is never modified. Can you self-host PiGallery2 with Docker?

Yes. Upstream calls Docker the official, recommended way, and this template is PiGallery2 Docker hosting ready to use: the 3.5.2 image pinned by digest, four named volumes, a generated administrator password and HTTPS. It is your own PiGallery2 cloud gallery, with no separate database to run.

How much RAM does PiGallery2 need?

The template declares 2 CPU cores, 2048 MB RAM and 10 GB of storage, which leaves room for indexing and thumbnail generation. This page starts at the 6 GB plan. A larger library mainly grows the thumbnail volume and the first indexing time.

Is PiGallery2 free?

Yes, under the MIT licence the software costs nothing. xCloud bills the dedicated Cloud VPS beneath it, cancellable any time. Your photos remain in plain folders that you can copy out whenever you like, because the gallery only reads them.

Does PiGallery2 modify my photos?

No. Upstream lists a read-only photo folder as a key feature, so PiGallery2 shows your folder structure without changing the files in it. Thumbnails are written to a separate volume, pigallery2_thumbnails, so deleting them never touches an original.

How do I sign in to PiGallery2?

Open your HTTPS address and sign in with the administrator username you chose at install, admin by default, and the generated 32-character password from the credentials panel. Then rotate that password from User management, and add other users only if you want to share access.

How do I add photos to PiGallery2?

Copy your media into the pigallery2_media volume through a server-side workflow you control, then let PiGallery2 index the library and generate thumbnails. Nothing is pre-loaded, so the gallery stays empty until you add content, and the first index of a big folder can take a while.

Can PiGallery2 run on a Raspberry Pi?

Upstream says it is optimised for low-resource servers, especially Raspberry Pi. On xCloud it runs on a Cloud VPS instead, so you get the same lightweight gallery without hardware at home, and the 2048 MB manifest floor is far below what the 6 GB plan provides.

Can I change the PiGallery2 domain later?

You can, but treat it as a reconfiguration rather than a rename. Update the domain in xCloud, then re-check anywhere the old HTTPS address was shared or saved, such as bookmarks and links, before inviting people back to the gallery.

How do I back up PiGallery2?

Back up pigallery2_config, pigallery2_database, pigallery2_media and pigallery2_thumbnails together, with the app stopped. Configuration holds settings, the database holds SQLite data and users, media holds your library, and thumbnails can be rebuilt. Test a restore once.

The install stays on pinned 3.5.2 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up all four volumes, read the upstream notes, then redeploy and check sign-in, indexing and a few photos. Existing sites are never upgraded automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
