What is Restreamer?

Restreamer is an Apache-2.0 live-video streaming server with a simple browser interface. A self-hosted Restreamer accepts RTMP streams, processes them with FFmpeg, serves HLS playback with a built-in VideoJS player and can restream to platforms such as YouTube Live, over protocols including RTMP and SRT. Upstream notes it is GDPR compliant without third-party providers and does not save audience data, and documents a REST API.

On xCloud the install runs Restreamer 2.12.0 from the official image, pinned by digest. The web interface, API and HLS playback are served over HTTPS, while RTMP publishing uses a separate allocated raw TCP port gated by a generated token. SRT, RTMPS and hardware transcoding are not enabled. The restreamer_config and restreamer_data volumes keep configuration and stream data.

Can you self-host Restreamer with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Restreamer Docker hosting without the setup. Upstream ships a datarhei/restreamer image for AMD64 and ARM; here xCloud runs the pinned 2.12.0 image, generates the credentials, allocates the RTMP port and publishes the interface over HTTPS.

How much RAM does Restreamer need?

The template asks for 4 CPU cores, 4 GB of RAM and 20 GB of disk as a floor for a small single-stream workload. A 4 GB floor means this page sells the 16 GB plan as the entry rung, since transcoding cost varies sharply.

Can I publish to Restreamer from OBS?

Yes. Use the generated RTMP server address, allocated port and token shown after installation as the stream settings in OBS or another publisher. The listener is raw RTMP over TCP, so there is no RTMPS or SRT in this template.

Is the Restreamer RTMP port private?

No. It is a publicly reachable raw TCP port, protected by the generated RTMP token rather than by HTTPS. Restrict it with the server firewall when external publishing is not needed. The browser interface stays protected by Restreamer's API authentication.

Does Restreamer include hardware transcoding?

No. The template does not enable privileged mode or pass host devices into the container, and it does not expose the optional SRT and UDP ports. Upstream lists hardware support, but it is not part of this install.

How many concurrent streams can Restreamer handle?

The baseline is sized for a small single-stream workload. Real capacity depends on codec, resolution, frame rate and whether you transcode, none of which the template fixes, so test with your own source and consider the larger plan before adding streams.

What should I back up on a Restreamer server?

Back up restreamer_config and restreamer_data together, stopping streams first for a consistent copy, along with the stable generated credentials. They hold configuration, process definitions, authentication state and media data under /core, so a restore needs both volumes from the same moment.

How do I upgrade Restreamer?

Restreamer 2.12.0 stays pinned until you adopt a newer template version. Stop streams, back up both volumes and read the upstream release notes and configuration migrations first. Existing sites are not upgraded automatically, and credentials must stay stable across redeploys.

Is Restreamer free?

Yes. The Apache-2.0 licence means no software fee. What you pay for is the dedicated Cloud VPS it runs on; the bandwidth viewers and relays use grows with audience size and with how many relays you run.

Can Restreamer restream to YouTube Live?

Upstream lists restreaming to platforms such as YouTube Live and to software such as Wowza, over protocols like RTMP and SRT. You set up each destination in the browser interface; this template exposes RTMP over TCP only for ingest.

Is there a Restreamer cloud service?

Not through this page. Restreamer cloud hosting here means your own streaming server runs on a Cloud VPS that xCloud provisions, with its configuration on a volume you own and playback served from your own domain.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
