What is Trino?

Trino is a fast distributed SQL query engine for big data analytics. Upstream points to a user manual for deployment and end-user documentation, and the template describes it as analytics across built-in and external data sources. A self-hosted Trino is an alternative to a hosted data warehouse or query service for teams that want the engine on their own server, released under Apache-2.0, with a user manual published upstream.

Is the Trino SQL API protected?

Yes. Caddy requires Basic Auth, rejects anonymous and wrong-password requests, overwrites X-Trino-User, and removes X-Trino-Original-User and upstream Authorization headers, so a client cannot spoof its identity. Only /healthz is unauthenticated, and it returns no application data.

Can I connect Trino to my own data sources?

Not through the install form, which deliberately accepts no connector credentials. External connectors and their secrets are added only through a reviewed operational change, and back up anything you add, since the baseline is stateless.

Which catalogs come with Trino here?

The official image includes tpch, tpcds, memory and jmx. TPCH and TPCDS generate synthetic benchmark data, so they are for functional checks and do not represent customer storage. Memory and JMX are small built-in catalogs too.

Can you self-host Trino with Docker?

Yes. Trino publishes an official image, and this template is Trino Docker hosting with the surrounding parts done: the 483 image and a Caddy proxy pinned by digest, generated credentials and HTTPS on your own domain.

How much RAM does Trino need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 4 CPU cores and 15 GB of disk, while the template README calls 4 CPU and 8 GiB a conservative starting point, not production sizing. Connectors, concurrency and query shape decide real needs.

Does Trino store my data?

Not in this template, by design. The baseline is stateless: query state and built-in benchmark data are transient, so there is no server-side data volume to back up. External source systems remain outside this installation's backup boundary.

Is Trino open source?

Yes. Trino and the Caddy proxy are both Apache-2.0, so using them costs nothing in licences. The only bill is the Cloud VPS that runs the engine, which gives you a Trino cloud of your own.

How do I rotate the Trino password?

Change TRINO_PASSWORD in the Environment editor, save, then restart or redeploy, and update every SQL client at once. Keep it stable otherwise, so existing clients keep authenticating. The password is 12 to 64 characters long and applies after the redeploy.

How do I back up Trino?

There is no data volume to back up. Keep the rendered environment, including the credentials, and back up each external data source and any connector configuration you add separately. Test your restore of those independently.

How do I upgrade Trino?

The install stays on its pinned 483 image until you adopt a newer template version. Review the Trino release notes and connector changes, then rerun authentication and protected-SQL checks. Roll back to the prior template version with its matching connector configuration.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
