What is Trino?

Is Trino free, and what license is it under?
Yes — Trino and the Caddy proxy in front of it are both free and open source under the Apache-2.0 licence. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host Trino?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Trino image behind an authenticated Caddy proxy, both pinned by immutable digest, generates access credentials, and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Can Trino query external databases and data lakes?
Yes, through Trino connectors. This public installation form deliberately does not accept connector credentials — add connector configuration and secrets through a reviewed operational workflow rather than the install form.
Does the template include sample data?
Yes. The official TPCH and TPCDS catalogs generate synthetic benchmark data so you can run safe functional checks immediately, alongside the memory and JMX catalogs from the official Trino image.
How are credentials protected?
A Caddy Basic Auth layer in front of Trino rejects anonymous and incorrect credentials, and overwrites any caller-supplied Trino identity headers — a client cannot present a spoofed identity to the coordinator behind it.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The pinned Trino image behind an authenticated Caddy proxy, generated access credentials, the bundled TPCH/TPCDS/memory/JMX catalogs, the domain and the HTTPS route.
What should I back up?
Back up each external data source independently, using that source's own process. This installation's baseline is intentionally stateless — no Trino query state or bundled benchmark data lives in a persistent server volume — so if you add connector configuration and secrets operationally, back up those files with restrictive permissions.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Trino?
No. The template pins the official Trino image by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before upgrading, review Trino's release notes and connector changes, update the version and digest together, then repeat authentication, identity-spoof rejection, protected SQL, Restart and rollback checks.
Is the stated resource floor production sizing?
No. It is a conservative starting point. Production capacity depends on concurrency, connectors, query shape and data volume — size up as your workload grows rather than treating the floor as a ceiling.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 16 GB?
The template manifest asks for 4 CPU cores, 8 GB of RAM and 15 GB of disk as a floor. Per xCloud's own sizing rule, a 4 GB-and-up manifest floor sells the 16 GB tier rather than the entry 6 GB box, which would leave too little headroom once the OS is running.
What survives a restart?
The rendered proxy configuration and generated credentials reproduce the same authenticated deployment across an xCloud Restart. Trino's own query state is intentionally not persisted, since the baseline is stateless by design.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Trino or Starburst?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Trino project or Starburst has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Trino project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
