Typesense Hosting Live In 5 Minutes
Typesense hosting on xCloud gives your application a self-hosted search engine behind an authenticated HTTPS API. Deploy Typesense in one click: xCloud runs the pinned 30.2 image as a single node, mounts the typesense_data volume for your documents, generates a 48-character bootstrap API key and publishes the endpoint on your domain, so you can create your first collection straight away.

What is Typesense?
Typesense is a fast, typo-tolerant search engine for building search experiences, released under GPL-3.0. Self-hosted Typesense presents itself as an open-source Algolia alternative and an easier-to-use Elasticsearch alternative, delivered as a single binary written in C++ with no runtime dependencies. It offers typo tolerance, faceting, filtering, geo search, vector search, synonyms and scoped API keys through an HTTP API, with client libraries and search UI components.
This template runs Typesense 30.2 as one single-node container behind xCloud's nginx, with the port bound to localhost. The typesense_data volume holds the raw documents and the on-disk state used to rebuild the in-memory indexes. xCloud generates the bootstrap administrator API key. There is no browser setup page: you create collections through the API.
From Sign-Up to a Live Search API In Just 3 Easy Steps
A Typesense install normally means a container, a persistent data directory, a generated admin key, a reverse proxy, a domain and a certificate before the first query. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Sign Up
Create your xCloud account and pick Typesense from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; the install form has no application fields, because xCloud generates the key.
Step 02
We Deploy It For You
One click. We start Typesense 30.2 pinned by digest as a single node, mount typesense_data at /data, bind port 8108 to localhost behind nginx and publish the API over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Create A Collection
Check the /health endpoint, then send the bootstrap key in the X-TYPESENSE-API-KEY header to create your first collection and add documents. Create a restricted search key before connecting a browser.
Everything Typesense Does, On Your Own Server
Typesense runs here as a single-node search API, with your documents on a volume you control and every request authenticated.
Typo-Tolerant Matching
Typesense handles typographical errors out of the box, so a search for a misspelled product name still finds the right record.
Faceting And Filtering
Drill down and refine results with facets and filters, and sort dynamically at query time, for example by price ascending.
Geo Search
Search and sort by results around a latitude and longitude, or within a bounding box, for store locators and listings.
Vector Search
Index embeddings from your own models and run nearest-neighbour queries for similarity, semantic search or recommendations; vector workloads can need substantially more RAM.
Scoped API Keys
Generate keys that only allow access to certain records, so browsers and multi-tenant applications never see the bootstrap administrator key.
A Single Authenticated API
API requests need a key, CORS is enabled for browser clients, and the container port is reachable only through xCloud nginx over HTTPS.
Everything You Need To Run Your Search API 24/7
Managed hosting for Typesense, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

What You Can Do With Typesense
Add typo tolerant search to a site
A developer indexes a product catalogue and lets shoppers find items despite misspellings, with facets for category and filters for price, all from an endpoint on their own domain.
Replace a hosted search subscription
A team that pays for Algolia moves its search to Typesense on a Cloud VPS it controls, keeping the data in its own volume and using scoped keys for the front end.
Build a store locator with geo search
A retailer indexes its shops with coordinates and sorts results by distance from a visitor, using a restricted search key from the browser.
Prototype semantic search on your data
A machine-learning engineer indexes embeddings from their own model and runs nearest-neighbour queries, sizing the server up if the vectors outgrow the memory floor.
Typesense vs Alternatives
- Algolia
- Upstream's README calls Typesense an open-source Algolia alternative, and with this template the index and data sit on a Cloud VPS you control.
- Meilisearch
- Comparing Meilisearch, also on xCloud? Typesense is GPL-3.0, written in C++ as a single binary, and its template asks for 2048 MB of RAM and 2 CPU cores. Benchmark both on your own documents and queries.
- Elasticsearch
- Upstream's README positions Typesense as an easier-to-use Elasticsearch alternative, delivered as a single binary with no runtime dependencies. This baseline is a single node, not a cluster.
- Typesense Cloud
- Upstream runs its own Typesense Cloud service. Running the open-source image yourself on a dedicated Cloud VPS instead keeps the documents and API keys on infrastructure you manage.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

Blaine MooreFrequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Can I self-host Typesense with Docker?
Yes, and Typesense Docker hosting is what this template does. Upstream publishes the typesense/typesense image; xCloud runs 30.2 pinned by digest as a single-node container with typesense_data mounted, served on your domain over HTTPS, instead of a docker run command and reverse proxy you maintain yourself.
How much RAM does Typesense need?
The template manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk as a floor, and these are catalogue minimums, not production sizing advice. The 6 GB Cloud VPS here clears them. Vector and embedding workloads can need substantially more memory, so size to your dataset.
Does Typesense keep its index in memory?
Yes. Typesense keeps its search indexes in memory, and the template notes upstream's estimate that keyword indexes take roughly two to three times the size of the searchable-field data. The typesense_data volume stores the raw documents used to rebuild those indexes after a restart.
How do I update Typesense?
Typesense does not update itself here: 30.2 is pinned by digest, and a catalogue re-sync does not upgrade existing installs. Export a verified backup, read upstream's upgrade notes for every version you cross, recreate the container without deleting typesense_data, then verify health and representative searches.
What should I back up for Typesense?
Back up the complete typesense_data volume, which holds the raw documents and on-disk state. For an application-consistent backup, use Typesense's snapshot procedure or stop the service before copying the volume, store the copy off the server and test the restore. Never run docker compose down -v.
What is the Typesense API key and how do I use it?
xCloud generates a 48-character bootstrap administrator key, shown in your credentials panel. Send it in the X-TYPESENSE-API-KEY header for admin requests and keep it server-side, because it permits every operation. For browsers, create restricted search-only or scoped keys through the key management endpoints.
Is Typesense a good Algolia alternative?
Upstream's README calls Typesense an open-source Algolia alternative, with typo tolerance, faceting, filtering and geo search. Whether it fits depends on your data and RAM budget. This template is single-node, and upstream recommends a three- or five-node cluster where high availability matters.
Typesense vs Meilisearch: which is better?
Neither wins on every dataset. Meilisearch's xCloud template asks for 512 MB of RAM; Typesense is GPL-3.0, keeps its indexes in memory and its template asks for 2048 MB and 2 CPU cores. Benchmark both on your own documents and queries before choosing.
Does Typesense support vector search?
Yes. Upstream lists vector search: you index embeddings from your own models and run nearest-neighbour queries for similarity, semantic search or recommendations. Memory use grows with the vectors, so the 6 GB plan is a starting point. Built-in embedding models are an upstream option this template does not configure.
Is Typesense free and open source?
Yes. Typesense is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, and LICENSE.txt at the v30.2 tag is the GPL text. xCloud charges for the server and deployment, with nothing added for the software. Upstream also sells its separate Typesense Cloud service, which this self-hosted page does not use.
Who owns the data stored in Typesense?
You do. This is Typesense cloud hosting on a dedicated Cloud VPS only you use, so your collections and documents sit in your own typesense_data volume, separate from upstream's Typesense Cloud service. xCloud runs the server and deployment, and you own the data and the keys.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
