What is OpenSearch?

OpenSearch is an open-source search and analytics engine. You index documents through its REST API and query them with full-text search, and OpenSearch Dashboards gives you a web UI to explore the data, create index patterns and manage security users and roles.

This template runs a single OpenSearch node with the security plugin enabled next to OpenSearch Dashboards, both at version 3.9.0, under the Apache-2.0 licence.

From Sign-Up to a Live Search Node In Just 3 Easy Steps

A secured OpenSearch stack normally means two containers, security configuration, an admin password, a volume, two domains and certificates before the first query. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick OpenSearch from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards from official images pinned by immutable digest, keep the transport port unpublished, mount the opensearch_data volume, generate the admin password and publish Dashboards and the REST API over HTTPS on their own domains.

  3. Step 03

    Sign In To Dashboards

Save the admin password from the credentials card, then open the HTTPS Dashboards URL and sign in as admin. The first start creates the security index and takes a few minutes. Then create limited users and roles under Security and point your applications at the API domain.

Everything OpenSearch Does, On Your Own Server

OpenSearch runs in full here: the search engine, its REST API and the Dashboards UI, each on its own HTTPS domain.

  • REST API For Search

Index documents and run full-text searches over the REST API on its own HTTPS domain, with HTTP basic authentication on every request.

  • OpenSearch Dashboards

Explore data, create index patterns and manage saved objects in the Dashboards web UI on the primary domain.

  • Security Plugin On

Requests without credentials get a 401, and users and roles are managed under Security in Dashboards so applications do not share the admin password.

  • Persistent Indexes

Indexes, cluster state, the security index and Dashboards saved objects live on one volume; a document and an index pattern survived a restart of both containers in QA.

  • Generated Admin Password

The admin password is generated for you and shown on the credentials card; the built-in demo users with public passwords are removed.

  • Multi-Architecture Images

Official amd64 and arm64 images, pinned by immutable digest, so the stack you test is the stack that runs.

What You Can Do With OpenSearch

  • Add full-text search to an application

Point your app at the API domain with a limited user and index and query documents over HTTPS with basic authentication.

  • Explore and visualise your data

Create index patterns in Dashboards and browse the fields and documents in your indexes from a browser.

  • Run log analytics and observability dashboards

Send log and event data into indexes on your own server and explore it in OpenSearch Dashboards.

  • Keep search data on infrastructure you control

Hold indexes on a server you own, with the API closed to anyone without credentials.

OpenSearch vs Alternatives

Elasticsearch
The search engine OpenSearch grew from, under Elastic's licensing; OpenSearch is Apache-2.0 and ships its own Dashboards UI.
Apache Solr
A Lucene-based search platform with its own admin UI and APIs; OpenSearch adds a JSON REST API and Dashboards for exploration.
Meilisearch
A lightweight search engine focused on fast typo-tolerant search; OpenSearch also covers analytics and log exploration.
Amazon OpenSearch Service
A cloud-provider hosted service for OpenSearch; here the same open-source engine runs on a server you control.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo Villa
Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I sign in?

Open the Dashboards domain and sign in as admin with the generated password from the credentials card.

How do I reach the API?

Use the separate API domain with HTTP basic authentication as admin, for example curl -u admin:<password> https://<api-domain>/_cluster/health. A request without credentials returns 401.

What runs alongside OpenSearch?

OpenSearch Dashboards in a second container. Nothing else is installed, and Dashboards reaches OpenSearch over the private Docker network.

Why is the first start slow?

The first start creates the security index and takes a few minutes; until then the Dashboards domain may show an error.

Is it a cluster?

No, it is a single node. Indexes with replicas stay yellow on one node, which is expected.

Should my applications use the admin user?

No. Create limited users and roles under Security in Dashboards and give those credentials to your applications. The built-in demo users with public passwords are removed, so only admin exists at first.

How do I change the admin password?

The admin password is read only when the security index is first created. Change it in Dashboards under Security, then update the stored value so Dashboards can still connect to OpenSearch.

Are there any limits I should know about?

Memory-mapped index files are switched off so the node starts without raising the host's vm.max_map_count, which makes very large indexes somewhat slower. API paths that begin with a dot, such as /.kibana, are blocked at the edge, and the Dashboards session cookie is HttpOnly but not marked Secure.

What should I back up?

The whole opensearch_data volume, which holds indexes, cluster state, the security index and Dashboards saved objects. Use OpenSearch snapshots for an application-consistent backup.

What survives a restart?

Data on the opensearch_data volume. In QA a document and an index pattern were created, both containers were restarted and both were still there.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update OpenSearch?

No. The template pins OpenSearch and Dashboards 3.9.0 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Read the upstream release notes, take a verified backup, then bump the readable tag and digests together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 2 CPU cores, 2048 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk; measured use in QA was about 1.9 GB, with a 1 GB heap plus Dashboards. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
