COPS hosting publishes your Calibre library on your own domain. Deploy COPS 4.5.4 as a self-hosted OPDS ebook server: xCloud runs the pinned LinuxServer image behind a gateway that asks for a generated username and password, mounts persistent volumes for settings and your library, and serves a browsable catalog, an OPDS feed for e-reader apps and a REST API over HTTPS.
Self-hosted COPS is an OPDS ebook server. The name stands for Calibre OPDS PHP Server: it publishes an existing Calibre ebook library on the web, with a browsable catalog offering search, covers and downloads, an OPDS feed for e-reader apps and a REST API. It reads the library and never modifies it. Readers use it instead of a hosted ebook library, under the GPL-2.0-or-later licence.
On xCloud the template runs the LinuxServer COPS 4.5.4 image behind a small gateway, both pinned by immutable digest, with the cops_config and cops_books volumes. The gateway enforces HTTP Basic Authentication on the site, feed, downloads and API with a generated password, because COPS has no sign-in of its own. No library is bundled: you copy a Calibre library into the books volume.
A COPS setup normally means a PHP web container, an authentication layer, volumes, a domain and a certificate before the first book appears. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account and pick COPS from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain, confirm the timezone and the access username — xCloud generates the password.
Step 02
One click. We bring up the COPS container, kept private, behind a small gateway container that enforces HTTP Basic Authentication, mount the cops_config and cops_books volumes, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.
Step 03
Save the username and password from the installation credentials, then copy your Calibre library (metadata.db plus the author folders) into the books volume and reload. Until you do, COPS shows a "database not found" check page.
COPS runs in full here: a web catalog, an OPDS feed and a REST API over your Calibre library, behind a password you control.
A web catalog of your Calibre library with search, covers and downloads, reachable from any device with a browser.
Point KOReader, Foliate, Moon+ Reader or Marvin at the /feed URL and sign in with the same username and password.
A REST API is available over the same library, behind the same gateway password.
COPS never modifies your Calibre library; it has no upload page and cannot create one.
COPS has no sign-in of its own, so a gateway enforces HTTP Basic Authentication on the site, feed, downloads and API; QA confirmed 401 without credentials on each.
The cops_config and cops_books volumes, and the access credentials, survived an xCloud Restart in QA.
Managed hosting for COPS, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.
Add the OPDS feed to KOReader, Foliate, Moon+ Reader or Marvin and download books straight to the device, signing in with the same username and password.
Open the web catalog on a phone, tablet or laptop to search your Calibre library by title or author and download a book without installing Calibre itself.
The whole site, feed and downloads sit behind a generated username and password rather than a public page, and anonymous requests get a 401.
Use the REST API over the same library for your own scripts and tools, behind the same gateway password, without exposing the Calibre files directly.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

COPS's floor is one core, 256 MB of RAM and 5 GB of disk per the manifest, with about 29 MiB idle in QA. Generating thumbnails of very large covers is the main memory peak. The 6 GB plan on offer here dwarfs that, so disk size is what limits your library.
Yes. COPS is licensed under GPL-2.0-or-later, per the LICENSE file at the 4.5.4 tag, so the code costs nothing to run. xCloud's only charge is the dedicated Cloud VPS, and your Calibre library stays in the cops_books volume of your own server.
Yes, and this is COPS Docker hosting prepared for you: the template runs the LinuxServer COPS 4.5.4 image behind a gateway, both pinned by immutable digest, with cops_config and cops_books volumes and HTTPS on your domain. You write no compose file and no PHP configuration.
No. COPS only reads a Calibre library: it has no upload page and cannot create one, and it never modifies your library. Copy the library, with metadata.db and the author folders, into the books volume, and manage it with Calibre elsewhere.
No library is bundled. Until you copy a Calibre library, meaning metadata.db plus the author folders, into the books volume and make the files readable, COPS shows a database-not-found check page. It is expected on a fresh install, not a fault.
KOReader, Foliate, Moon+ Reader and Marvin are named in the template. Enter the OPDS feed URL, which is the /feed path of your domain, and the same username and password; OPDS readers support HTTP Basic Authentication, which is what the gateway uses.
No. COPS has no sign-in of its own, so a gateway enforces HTTP Basic Authentication on the site, the feed, downloads and the REST API; QA confirmed a 401 without credentials on each. Rotate ADMIN_PASSWORD in the Environment editor and restart to change it.
Per the fork's README, release 4.x only works with PHP 8.4 or later. You do not manage that here: the LinuxServer image bundles a suitable PHP runtime, which is part of why the version is pinned, and why a pre-3.x configuration may need migrating.
Your Calibre library from wherever it originates, since COPS never changes it, and the cops_config volume, which holds settings and the thumbnail cache. Keep the access credentials with them. Test a restore, because a library with missing files returns errors rather than books.
Nothing upgrades it for you: the template pins 4.5.4 by immutable digest. Back up cops_config, read the upstream release notes and breaking-change list, then adopt a newer template version when one is published, and confirm the catalog and the OPDS feed still answer.
It is your own COPS on a dedicated Cloud VPS provisioned by xCloud, not a hosted ebook service. The gateway, the container, both volumes and the password belong to your install, and the catalog is served over HTTPS on your domain.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
