DDNS Updater Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy DDNS Updater hosting and run a self-hosted dynamic DNS updater that keeps records at your DNS providers current on a dedicated Cloud VPS. xCloud starts the pinned DDNS Updater v2.10.0 container from the JSON configuration you enter, puts a Basic Auth gateway with a generated password in front of its status page and serves it over HTTPS on your own domain.

What is DDNS Updater?

DDNS Updater is a lightweight universal program that keeps DNS A and AAAA records updated for multiple DNS providers. Every period, five minutes by default, it fetches the public IP, resolves each configured record and updates any whose address differs, with a web page showing status and optional Shoutrrr notifications. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted DDNS Updater, an alternative to a hosted dynamic DNS service such as No-IP, released under the MIT licence.

On xCloud it is the DDNS Updater v2.10.0 container behind an nginx Basic Auth gateway, both pinned by digest, because the updater has no login of its own. Your records and provider tokens are the one-line JSON CONFIG value. The ddns_updater_data volume holds update history, and only IPv4 records work on the bridge network.

From Sign-Up to a Live DDNS Updater In Just 3 Easy Steps

A DDNS Updater install normally means the updater container, a JSON configuration with provider tokens, an authentication layer it does not provide, a data volume, a domain and a certificate before the first record updates. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick DDNS Updater from the OneClick catalog. Paste your DNS records as one line of JSON in the CONFIG field, with no single quotes, then choose a domain and a server.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start ghcr.io/qdm12/ddns-updater v2.10.0 behind a pinned nginx gateway, both pinned by digest, mount ddns_updater_data at /updater/data, generate the gateway password and publish HTTPS. It is usually ready within seconds.

  3. Step 03

    Check The Status Page

Sign in as ddns with the generated password. The page lists each record and its last update; the updater checks the public IP every five minutes. To add a record, edit CONFIG in the Environment editor and redeploy.

Everything DDNS Updater Does, On Your Own Server

DDNS Updater v2.10.0 runs here behind a login, with record history kept on a volume you own and its configuration in one environment value.

  • Many DNS Providers

The updater keeps A and AAAA records current for many DNS providers, including Cloudflare, DuckDNS, GoDaddy and Namecheap, per its README.

  • Periodic Public IP Check

It fetches the public IP on a period, five minutes by default, resolves each record and updates any whose address is missing or different.

  • Status Page

A web page lists each record and its status. It names your domains and providers, so it sits behind the gateway login.

  • Gateway Login Added

DDNS Updater has no accounts of its own, so an nginx Basic Auth gateway guards the whole domain, with the user ddns and a generated password.

  • One-Line JSON Configuration

The CONFIG value holds every record and provider token as one line of JSON and is applied on every start, overriding any file on the volume.

  • IPv4 Records

The container runs on a bridge network that normally has no IPv6, so configure each record with ip_version set to ipv4.

Everything You Need To Run Your Dynamic DNS 24/7

Managed hosting for DDNS Updater, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • DDNS Updater v2.10.0 deployed instantly
  • Images pinned by digest
  • Gateway password generated for you
  • Updater itself never published
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • Choose your server region
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With DDNS Updater

  • Keep a hostname current as the server's address changes

Let DDNS Updater rewrite an A record at your DNS provider when the public IP changes, so the name keeps resolving.

  • Manage several records across providers

List records for different providers in the CONFIG value and let one updater look after them all on the same schedule.

  • See at a glance whether records updated

Open the gated status page to see each record and the time of its last update, rather than reading logs.

  • Send update notifications

Set SHOUTRRR_ADDRESSES in the environment to send the updater's notifications to the services Shoutrrr supports.

DDNS Updater vs Alternatives

No-IP
DDNS Updater lists NoIP among its supported providers; it is MIT-licensed software that updates records at the DNS providers you use, from your own xCloud server.
DynDNS
DynDNS is one of the providers DDNS Updater can update, alongside Cloudflare, Route53 and others, all listed in one CONFIG value.
DDNS-GO
Available as its own OneClick app; DDNS Updater is configured by one line of JSON and shows each record's status on a web page behind the gateway login.
GoDNS
DDNS Updater keeps a history of past IP addresses per record in updates.json and can send notifications through Shoutrrr addresses you set.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo Villa
Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can I run DDNS Updater in Docker?

Yes, and this template is DDNS Updater Docker hosting without the setup: the ghcr.io/qdm12/ddns-updater v2.10.0 image behind a pinned nginx gateway, both pinned by digest, with the ddns_updater_data volume and an HTTPS route. Upstream publishes the image on two registries.

How much RAM does DDNS Updater need?

The template minimum is 128 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 1 GB of disk, since the updater is a small Go program that only makes outbound connections. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, leaving ample room for other apps.

Which DNS providers does DDNS Updater support?

Upstream lists many, including Cloudflare, DuckDNS, GoDaddy, Namecheap, DigitalOcean and deSEC, and the list grows between releases. Each provider has its own required keys in the upstream docs for v2.10.0. This page quotes no provider count.

How do I configure DDNS Updater records?

Enter all records as one line of JSON in the CONFIG value, with no single quotes. It holds provider tokens too, so treat it as secret. It is applied on every start and overrides config.json, so to change a record, edit CONFIG and Save and Redeploy.

Does DDNS Updater have a login?

Not by itself, so this template adds an nginx Basic Auth gateway in front of the whole domain. Use the username ddns and the generated password. Without it, the page, which lists your domain names and providers, would be open to anyone.

Why does DDNS Updater report unhealthy after an update?

The built-in health check looks each non-proxied record up in DNS and compares the answer with the IP it last set, so after a change it can report unhealthy until the resolver's cache refreshes. Records behind a proxy are not compared.

Is DDNS Updater free?

Yes. DDNS Updater is released under the MIT licence, so the program has no licence fee. Spend is confined to the dedicated Cloud VPS. Your DNS provider may charge for its own service, and you create the API tokens it needs.

How do I back up DDNS Updater?

Back up the ddns_updater_data volume, which holds the update history. The configuration, including provider credentials, lives in the CONFIG value of the site's environment, so keep that safe too. Scheduling is left to you; do it and prove the restore works.

How do I upgrade DDNS Updater?

Nothing upgrades itself: v2.10.0 and the nginx gateway are pinned by digest, so a running install stays on them. Back up the volume and CONFIG, read the upstream release notes, then move to a newer template version when one is published.

Is this a DDNS Updater cloud service?

It is DDNS Updater on a dedicated Cloud VPS under your xCloud login, a DDNS Updater cloud of your own at your domain. The container only makes outbound HTTPS and DNS connections, to your provider and an IP lookup service.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
