What is Drawnix?

Drawnix is an open-source whiteboard that combines mind maps, flowcharts and freehand drawing on one infinite canvas, released under the MIT licence. Upstream lists image support, a plugin architecture, export to PNG, JPG and JSON, auto-save to browser storage, undo and redo, themes, mobile adaptation, Mermaid-to-flowchart conversion and Markdown-to-mind-map conversion. Self-hosted Drawnix is that whiteboard served from your own domain instead of a hosted service.

There is no login and no real-time collaboration: boards are saved only in the visitor's browser local storage, so clearing site data deletes them and other devices never see them. What is Drawnix used for?

Drawnix is used to sketch ideas on a canvas: mind maps, flowcharts and freehand drawings in one tool. You can paste Mermaid syntax to generate a flowchart or Markdown text to generate a mind map, drop in images, and export to PNG, JPG or a JSON file for later.

Is Drawnix free and open source?

Yes. Drawnix is free and open source under the MIT licence, so the whiteboard has no licence fee. The xCloud bill covers the Cloud VPS serving it and the deployment. Because the app runs in each visitor's browser, the server does very little work.

Can you self-host Drawnix with Docker?

Yes. For Drawnix Docker hosting the template runs the pubuzhixing/drawnix v0.4.1 image, pinned by digest, as a single static container behind HTTPS on your domain. There is nothing to configure and no volume. The upstream tag marked latest was never published as an image, so the template pins the working v0.4.1 build.

How much RAM does Drawnix need?

The manifest floor for Drawnix is 128 MB of RAM with one core and 1 GB of disk, since the container only serves static files. The 6 GB plan offered here dwarfs that. Drawing happens in the visitor's browser, so large canvases use the visitor's own device memory.

Where does Drawnix save my boards?

Only in the visitor's browser, in local storage on that device. Drawnix has no backend or database, so a board survives reloads in the same browser but disappears if site data is cleared, and other browsers or devices never see it. Export from the in-app menu to keep a copy.

Does Drawnix support real-time collaboration?

No. There is no login and no shared state: every visitor to your address gets their own private, local-only canvas. If you need several people editing one board at once, Drawnix on this template is not the tool. Share work by exporting a PNG or a .drawnix file instead.

Can Drawnix turn Mermaid or Markdown into diagrams?

Yes. Upstream lists conversion of Mermaid syntax into flowcharts and of Markdown text into mind maps. Import a document from the toolbar and Drawnix lays out the diagram on the canvas, which you can then edit by hand, restyle with a theme and export.

How do I back up Drawnix?

There is no volume and nothing to back up on the server, because boards live in each visitor's browser. Export from the in-app menu to a PNG, JPG or .drawnix JSON file before you clear browser data, reinstall or switch devices, and store those files yourself. Server backups only cover the machine.

How do I upgrade Drawnix?

Version v0.4.1 stays fixed until you move it. Confirm that a newer upstream tag has a real published multi-architecture image, since upstream has skipped tags before, then select a later template version. Boards are stored in browsers, so an upgrade does not touch anyone's saved work.

Is Drawnix private?

The server stores nothing, but it is public: anyone who can reach the address can open the canvas. Their work stays in their own browser. If you want the tool limited to your team, put xCloud Basic Authentication or IP management in front of the site.

Can I run Drawnix in the cloud on xCloud?

Yes. Drawnix cloud use needs only a small Cloud VPS of its own, with your domain and certificate in front. If you already pay another provider for a machine, attach it as self-managed. Being static, the app also coexists happily with other apps on the same server.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
