Firefly III Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Firefly III hosting and run a self-hosted personal finance manager on your own domain. xCloud runs the pinned Firefly III 6.7.3 image with a private MariaDB database and a daily scheduler sidecar, generates the app key and database passwords, and publishes it over HTTPS with registration closing after the first account, so your accounts, budgets and transactions stay on your own server.

What is Firefly III?

Firefly III is a free and open-source manager for your personal finances. It helps you keep track of expenses and income with accounts, budgets, categories and tags, automates the routine with rules and recurring activity, and produces financial reports. Run as self-hosted Firefly III, it is built for people who want to track their finances without having to upload their financial records to the cloud. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0.

On xCloud the template deploys Firefly III 6.7.3 pinned by digest, a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database and a scheduler sidecar that calls the protected daily cron endpoint. Two volumes, firefly_db and firefly_uploads, hold your data and attachments. The first visitor registers at /register, after which public registration closes. The optional Data Importer is a separate application and is not bundled.

From Sign-Up to a Live Finance Manager In Just 3 Easy Steps

A private finance manager normally means an app container, a database, a scheduler, secrets, a domain and a certificate before the first transaction is recorded. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Firefly III from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server; the install form needs no application-specific values.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We start the Firefly III 6.7.3 image and a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database, add the cron sidecar, mount firefly_db and firefly_uploads, generate the app key and passwords and publish HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Register The First Account

Open /register on your domain straight away, create the first account with a strong password and walk through the preference screens. Registration then closes, and you can add your first accounts and transactions.

Everything Firefly III Does, On Your Own Server

Firefly III runs here with its budgets, rules and reports, backed by a database that sits on your own server.

  • Accounts And Transactions

Record expenses and income across your accounts so you can see where money is going before it is gone.

  • Budgets, Categories And Tags

Group spending with budgets, categories and tags, so a month's numbers answer the question of what to cut back.

  • Rules For The Routine

Rules apply to transactions automatically, so recurring clean-up work such as labelling a regular payment happens without you.

  • Recurring Activity

Recurring transactions are processed by the daily cron sidecar this template runs, so bills and salaries do not depend on remembering.

  • Financial Reports

Run reports over your accounts and budgets to compare periods and spot where spending drifted.

  • Attachments On Your Volume

Upload receipts and statements to transactions. Attachments live in the firefly_uploads volume on your server, not in a third-party cloud.

Everything You Need To Run Your Finance Manager 24/7

Managed hosting for Firefly III, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Firefly III 6.7.3 deployed instantly
  • Private MariaDB included
  • App key and passwords generated
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Firefly III

  • Keep household spending off the cloud

Record every account and expense in a database on your own server, so a family's financial history never has to be uploaded to a budgeting service you do not control.

  • Budget the month and track the drift

Set budgets, tag spending and run a report at month end to see which category ran over, so next month's plan starts from what actually happened.

  • Automate bills with recurring transactions

Schedule rent, subscriptions and salary as recurring activity, then let rules label them as they arrive, leaving only the one-off spending to enter by hand.

  • Keep receipts beside the transactions

Attach a receipt or statement to the transaction it belongs to and find both together at tax time, in a volume you back up yourself.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Can Firefly III import bank transactions?

Upstream says you can import data using a set of tools, and the Firefly III importer, called the Data Importer, is its separate application for that. This template does not bundle the importer, which has its own deployment and authentication, so plan to deploy it separately.

Is Firefly III a YNAB alternative?

It can serve that role if you want budgets, categories, tags and spending reports in an application you host: Firefly III is self-hosted and its records sit in your own MariaDB database. Compare the way you budget before switching.

Firefly III vs Actual Budget: which is better?

That depends on how you budget. Firefly III is a server application with a MariaDB database, double-entry bookkeeping, rules, recurring transactions and reports. Both have xCloud templates, so you can try each with your own data before choosing.

Does Firefly III connect to my bank automatically?

Not in this template. It ships no bank connection of its own, and the Data Importer that handles imports is a separate application that is not bundled. SMTP is also omitted, so the app sends no external email until you configure it.

Can I self-host Firefly III with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Firefly III Docker hosting done for you. It uses the official image, pinned by digest, a private MariaDB 11.8.3 database, a daily cron sidecar and two volumes, with HTTPS from xCloud's nginx. There is no compose file for you to maintain.

What does Firefly III cloud hosting on xCloud include?

A dedicated Cloud VPS that we provision, patch and monitor, with Firefly III, MariaDB and the scheduler running, HTTPS on your domain and the app key and database passwords generated. The application and the financial records inside it belong to you.

How much RAM does Firefly III need?

The template's catalog minimum is 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk, which the 6 GB plan clears. Large histories, reports, attachments, imports and concurrent users can need more, so watch memory and the firefly_uploads volume as the data grows.

How do I update Firefly III?

Nothing updates itself: the image is pinned to 6.7.3 by digest and catalog syncs do not upgrade existing sites. Before changing it, back up both volumes, read the release notes and database compatibility, then verify migrations, login and sample records. Never use docker compose down -v.

What should I back up for Firefly III?

Both volumes together: firefly_db holds users, accounts, budgets, rules and transactions in MariaDB, while firefly_uploads holds attachments. Use a consistent MariaDB dump plus an off-server copy of uploads, treat the backup as sensitive, and test a restore.

Is Firefly III free and open source?

Yes. Firefly III is free open-source software under AGPL-3.0, developed in the open on GitHub. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS it runs on rather than the software, and the database and records on it are yours alone.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
