Yes. ezBookkeeping is distributed under the MIT open-source licence, linked here at the pinned v1.6.1 tag. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS under it, not for ezBookkeeping, and there is no per-account fee. Your ledger sits in a SQLite file on your own server.

Can you self-host ezBookkeeping with Docker?

Yes, and this ezBookkeeping Docker hosting template does it for you: the upstream mayswind/ezbookkeeping image, pinned by digest, runs as one container on your own server with HTTPS in front of port 8080. It is not an ezBookkeeping cloud account, so your records stay with you.

How much RAM does ezBookkeeping need?

ezBookkeeping sets a manifest floor of 256 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 2 GB of disk. Large imports, transaction pictures, concurrent users and retained backups can need more. Choosing the 6 GB tier sold here leaves room to spare.

How do I create the first ezBookkeeping account?

Open your HTTPS address and register the account you want to use, then create at least one account and category and record or import a transaction. xCloud generates no credentials for this app, so choose a strong, unique password and keep it somewhere safe.

How do I stop strangers registering on ezBookkeeping?

Registration is enabled by default, so anyone who reaches the site can sign up. After you create the intended users, set EBK_USER_ENABLE_REGISTER=false in the Environment editor and restart the app. Until then, treat the address as open and avoid sharing it widely.

Does ezBookkeeping support multiple currencies?

Yes. Upstream lists multi-language and multi-currency support, so you can keep accounts in different currencies. This template sets no exchange-rate options, so upstream's default settings apply and any change is yours to make. Check how conversions behave before relying on totals.

Which database does ezBookkeeping use?

This template uses upstream's embedded SQLite database, with no separate database container. Upstream also supports MySQL and PostgreSQL, but those are not deployed here. The data and users sit on the ezbookkeeping_data volume, so a copy of that volume is a copy of your ledger.

Does ezBookkeeping send email or use AI features here?

No. SMTP, email verification, OIDC, AI, map and object-storage integrations are optional upstream features that remain customer-managed and are not configured by this baseline. Core bookkeeping needs none of them. Add them through EBK environment settings if you want them, and test each one.

How do I back up ezBookkeeping?

Back up ezbookkeeping_data and ezbookkeeping_storage together from the same point in time: the first holds the SQLite database and user state, and the second holds transaction pictures. A backup of only one can leave records and files out of sync. Test a restore first.

How do I upgrade ezBookkeeping?

A running 1.6.1 ledger is not changed by catalog updates. To upgrade, back up both volumes together, read upstream's release notes and migrations, then adopt a newer template version. Afterwards, sign in and confirm a few transactions and balances still look right.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
