Do my friends need accounts?
No. Each project has a private code. Anyone you share it with can view and add bills, with no sign-up. This template deploys I Hate Money 7.2.1.
How do I sign in?
Open your site, choose your project and enter its private code. There is no global admin login unless you turn on the optional admin dashboard.
Can strangers create projects on my instance?
They can while public creation is enabled, which is the upstream default. Set ALLOW_PUBLIC_PROJECT_CREATION=False in the environment editor and redeploy once your projects are set up — existing project codes keep working.
What runs alongside it?
Nothing. It's a single container with a built-in SQLite database — no separate database service to manage.
What should I back up?
The ihatemoney_db volume, which holds every project, participant, bill and settlement. Projects can also be exported individually from the app.
Does invitation email work out of the box?
No. MAIL_* settings are unset by default, so creating a project shows a harmless reminder-email error even though the project is created. Fill in the MAIL_* settings and redeploy to send invitations and reminders.
Can I require an admin password for creating projects?
Yes, as an optional layer once public creation is disabled — it is stored as a password hash, never plaintext. Change settings in the environment editor, not in the app, since they are applied from environment variables on every start.
What are the server requirements?
The template manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk. Measured idle use on QA was ~114 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier, comfortable headroom above that floor.
Does xCloud automatically update I Hate Money?
No. The image is pinned by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then change the tag and digest together.
Is xCloud officially partnered with I Hate Money?
No. No official partnership or endorsement has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source project, not an official offering.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
