HomeTube Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy HomeTube hosting and turn your own server into a video downloader you control. xCloud runs the pinned HomeTube 2.13.0 image behind an HTTP Basic Auth gateway with a generated password, mounts persistent volumes for finished videos, working files and config, and publishes it over HTTPS in minutes — paste a video or playlist URL and the server does the downloading.

What is HomeTube?

HomeTube is a self-hosted web interface for yt-dlp. You paste a video or playlist URL and the server downloads it, with quality profiles, subtitle and audio-language preferences, chapter embedding and an optional Jellyfin library refresh.

There is no database or setup step. HomeTube has no accounts or built-in authentication, so this template puts an nginx gateway with HTTP Basic Auth in front of the whole site and keeps the HomeTube container off the public internet. It is licensed AGPL-3.0-or-later.

From Sign-Up to Your First Download In Just 3 Easy Steps

A HomeTube setup normally means a container, a login in front of it, volumes for the library, a domain and a certificate before the first download. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick HomeTube from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in, because xCloud generates the credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official HomeTube image, pinned by immutable digest, behind an nginx gateway with HTTP Basic Auth and a generated password. The hometube_videos, hometube_tmp and hometube_config volumes are mounted, and the site is published over HTTPS on your domain; the HomeTube container itself stays private.

  3. Step 03

    Paste A URL And Download

Open your HTTPS HomeTube URL and sign in as hometube with the password shown in the protected installation credentials. Paste a video URL, analyze it and press Download — the file lands in the videos volume.

Everything HomeTube Does, On Your Own Server

HomeTube runs in full here: a yt-dlp web interface on your own domain, with the downloads stored on a server you own.

  • Videos And Playlists

Paste a video or playlist URL and the server downloads it to your own storage instead of your laptop.

  • Quality Profiles

Choose a quality profile and a maximum resolution for what gets downloaded.

  • Subtitles, Audio And Chapters

Set subtitle and audio-language preferences, with chapters and subtitles embedded in the finished files.

  • A Library For Your Media Server

Finished files land in one volume, so a media server such as Jellyfin can be pointed at it.

  • A Login In Front Of Everything

HomeTube has no accounts of its own, so the template adds an HTTP Basic Auth login with a generated password; anonymous requests, including the websocket, get a 401.

  • Persistent Volumes

Finished downloads, per-download working files and resume state, and an optional YouTube cookies file each live on their own named volume.

Everything You Need To Run Your Video Downloader 24/7

Managed hosting for HomeTube, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • HomeTube 2.13.0 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Generated login password
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With HomeTube

  • Build a media library on your own server

Queue videos and playlists and let finished files collect in one volume that you can point a media server such as Jellyfin at.

  • Download at the quality you want

Pick a quality profile and a maximum resolution once, instead of choosing a format for every download.

  • Keep subtitles and languages with the file

Set audio-language and subtitle preferences, with chapters and subtitles embedded in the files.

  • Use your server's bandwidth, not your own

The server fetches and stores the video, so your laptop and home connection are not tied up by long playlists.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Does HomeTube have a login?

Not by itself. HomeTube has no accounts of its own, so the xCloud template puts an HTTP Basic Auth login in front of it with the username hometube and a generated password. Anonymous requests, including the websocket, get a 401.

How do I sign in?

Open your HTTPS HomeTube URL and enter the username and password shown in the protected installation credentials. You can change GATEWAY_USER and GATEWAY_PASSWORD on the Environment page, then Save & Redeploy.

Where do my videos go?

Into the hometube_videos volume on your server. The interface cannot send finished videos back to your browser, so copy them off over SSH or point a media server such as Jellyfin at the volume.

Why does YouTube ask me to sign in?

YouTube often refuses downloads without cookies. Export a Netscape-format cookies.txt from your browser and add it to the hometube_config volume as described in the notice on the Environment page. Cookies expire, so repeat this when downloads start asking you to sign in.

Who should I share the login with?

Carefully. Anyone with the login can queue downloads, use the server's bandwidth and disk, and make the server fetch URLs that are only reachable from it.

What should I back up?

The three volumes: hometube_videos (finished downloads), hometube_tmp (working files and resume state) and hometube_config (the optional cookies file).

What survives a restart?

Downloaded videos, working files and the config volume all survived an xCloud Restart in QA, because they are persistent named volumes.

Why do downloads fail with extractor errors?

The yt-dlp bundled in the pinned image does not update itself, so an extractor error on a site that used to work usually means a newer HomeTube image is needed.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update HomeTube?

No. The template pins HomeTube 2.13.0 by immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not automatically upgraded. To upgrade, read the upstream release notes, then bump the image tag and digest together. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 20 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 55 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, which leaves room for large downloads and a growing library.

Is xCloud officially partnered with HomeTube?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the HomeTube project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source HomeTube project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
