ILLA Builder Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

ILLA Builder hosting on xCloud gives your team a self-hosted low-code platform for internal tools, admin panels and dashboards. Deploy ILLA Builder from the OneClick catalog and xCloud starts the pinned v4.8.5 all-in-one image, replaces ILLA's public default root password with a generated one, mounts volumes for the bundled PostgreSQL and file storage and publishes it over HTTPS. There is no self-service sign-up, so only holders of the root password can sign in.

What is ILLA Builder?

ILLA Builder is an open-source low-code platform for building internal tools, admin panels and dashboards. Its README describes dragging components onto a canvas from a library that includes charts, tables and forms, connecting to databases and APIs through data connectors, and building together in real time. It is licensed under Apache-2.0, and self-hosted ILLA Builder is a workspace you run yourself instead of the project's ILLA Cloud.

Deployed through xCloud, the template runs v4.8.5 as upstream's all-in-one image, pinned by digest, in one container that runs the web UIs, the backends, PostgreSQL, Redis, MinIO and envoy. Data sits on the illa_database and illa_drive volumes. The seeded root account's public default password is replaced at install, and this release has no sign-up route. Startup logs print secrets, so treat them as sensitive.

From Sign-Up to a Live Workspace In Just 3 Easy Steps

A self-hosted ILLA Builder normally means pulling an image, wiring a database, cache and object store, changing the default password, mounting volumes and issuing a certificate. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick ILLA Builder from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up upstream's ILLA Builder image pinned by immutable digest, with PostgreSQL, Redis and MinIO running inside the same container and never published, mount the illa_database and illa_drive volumes, replace the upstream default password with a generated one, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Sign In As Root

Allow a few minutes for the first start, then open your HTTPS ILLA Builder URL and sign in as root with the password from the protected installation credentials. Create your first app from the workspace, or change the password inside ILLA Builder.

Everything ILLA Builder Does, On Your Own Server

ILLA Builder runs in full here: a drag-and-drop low-code editor on your own domain, with the data behind it on volumes you own.

  • Drag-And-Drop App Builder

Assemble internal tools, admin panels and dashboards from a library of ready-made components in the editor.

  • Databases And APIs

Connect the apps you build to databases and APIs so they work on your own data.

  • Generated Root Password

ILLA's public default password is replaced at install with a generated one. The default is rejected, before and after a restart.

  • No Open Sign-Up

This release has no self-service sign-up, so only the holder of the root credentials can enter.

  • One Self-Contained Container

PostgreSQL, Redis and MinIO run inside the container and are not published to the internet.

  • Apps And Files Persist

The illa_database volume keeps users, teams, apps and resources; illa_drive keeps uploaded files. Both survive an xCloud Restart.

Everything You Need To Run Your Internal Tools 24/7

Managed hosting for ILLA Builder, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • ILLA Builder 4.8.5 deployed instantly
  • Upstream image pinned by digest
  • Generated root password, default rejected
  • Database, cache and storage bundled in
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With ILLA Builder

  • Build an internal admin panel

Your team assembles a panel from components and connects it to a database, so staff can look up and edit records without writing a front end.

  • Create dashboards on live data

You wire charts and tables to a database or REST API and share the dashboard with colleagues inside your private workspace.

  • Prototype tools quickly

A developer drags components onto a canvas and connects a data source in minutes, before deciding whether the tool needs custom code.

  • Keep internal tools on your own server

A company that does not want its internal apps and connection credentials in a hosted builder keeps them in a bundled database on its own server.

ILLA Builder vs Alternatives

Retool
ILLA Builder is an open-source low-code platform for internal tools that you run on your own server, with apps and connection details in its bundled database. This page makes no feature-parity claim with Retool.
Budibase
Budibase has its own OneClick page. ILLA Builder builds apps from drag-and-drop components wired to databases and APIs; test both on your real data sources before choosing.
Lowcoder
Lowcoder has its own OneClick page. On ILLA Builder, this install has a single root account and no self-service sign-up, so check how each fits the way your team shares access.
Hand-coded admin panels
Writing a panel by hand gives full control but costs developer time for every screen. ILLA Builder trades some flexibility for a drag-and-drop editor.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Is ILLA Builder free?

Yes. ILLA Builder is open source under Apache-2.0, with its licence text linked at the pinned [email protected] tag. xCloud bills for the Cloud VPS under it, not for ILLA Builder, and there is no per-editor fee. The project's hosted ILLA Cloud is a separate service.

Can you self-host ILLA Builder with Docker?

Yes, and this ILLA Builder Docker hosting template does it for you: upstream's all-in-one image, pinned by digest, runs as one container with its databases and storage on your own server, with HTTPS in front of port 2022. It is not an ILLA Builder cloud account on ILLA Cloud.

How much RAM does ILLA Builder need?

ILLA Builder's manifest sets a minimum of 1024 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk, though upstream states no minimum and a dozen processes share the container. Busy instances need more. Choosing the 6 GB tier on this page gives plenty of room.

How do I sign in to ILLA Builder?

Use the username root and the generated password in the protected installation credentials. ILLA ships a public default password for that account and the install replaces it, so the default no longer works. Change the password inside ILLA Builder if you prefer your own.

Can other people sign themselves up on ILLA Builder?

No. This release registers no sign-up route, so nobody can create their own account. Anyone who can reach the address sees the sign-in page, and only holders of the root password get in. Keep the password private and share the workspace deliberately.

Is the default ILLA Builder password still valid?

No. Upstream seeds the root account with a public default password and offers no environment setting for it. The install signs in with that default once, through ILLA's own API, and replaces it with a generated password, so the public default stops working.

What runs alongside ILLA Builder?

Nothing separate: one container supervises the web UIs, the builder, websocket and supervisor backends, PostgreSQL, Redis, MinIO and envoy. MinIO is also reachable under /object-storage/ on your domain, so its generated credentials must stay private. A crashed process is not restarted.

Does ILLA Builder contact outside services?

By default the backend calls ILLA's peripheral API, and no opt-out switch was found, though ILLA_PERIPHERAL_API can point it elsewhere. There is no SMTP setting, so it cannot send email. Startup logs print the full configuration with secrets, so treat container logs as sensitive.

How do I back up ILLA Builder?

Back up illa_database, which holds users, teams, apps and resources, and illa_drive, which holds uploaded files, together, and keep ILLA_SECRET_KEY with them. Redis is not persisted, so sign-in sessions expire after a restart. Test a restore on a disposable install first.

How do I upgrade ILLA Builder?

Catalog changes never rewrite a running v4.8.5 install, so a newer template version only arrives when you adopt it. Back up both volumes first and read the upstream release notes. The image tag does not fully pin the backends, so the digest is the reproducible pin.

Is ILLA Builder an alternative to Retool?

ILLA Builder lets you build internal tools from components connected to your databases and APIs, on your own server. This page makes no feature-parity claim with Retool, so try your real data sources on a test install before moving an app.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
