What is InvenTree?

InvenTree is an open-source inventory management system that, in its README's words, provides powerful low-level stock control and part tracking. Its core is a Python and Django backend that offers a web-based admin interface and a REST API, covering parts, stock, purchasing, manufacturing and build tracking. Run on your own server it is a self-hosted InvenTree, an alternative to a hosted inventory service such as Sortly or Fishbowl, with the code under the MIT licence.

Can I run InvenTree in Docker?

Yes, and this template is InvenTree Docker hosting without the setup: the vendor InvenTree 1.5.2 image, PostgreSQL 17.6 and Redis 7.4.5, each pinned by digest, with a worker, a Caddy proxy, two volumes and HTTPS on your domain.

How much RAM does InvenTree need?

The template minimum is 2048 MB of RAM, 2 CPU cores and 10 GB of disk, because the stack runs a web server, a worker, PostgreSQL and Redis. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung.

How do I sign in to InvenTree after installing?

Open your URL and sign in with the administrator username you chose and the generated password shown in the credentials. The first start runs database and static initialisation, so allow a few minutes before the page answers.

Does InvenTree need an email server?

Not to start, but email is not configured. Set it up under InvenTree settings before enabling outbound notifications or password-reset delivery, or those messages will not be sent. Nothing is preconfigured for you, so test a notification after setting it up.

Yes. InvenTree is released under the MIT licence, which means no licence fee for the software. Billing covers the dedicated Cloud VPS that stores your stock records, making this an InvenTree cloud of your own.

How do I back up InvenTree?

Back up inventree_data and inventree_postgres together: the first holds media, reports, plugins and configuration, the second holds inventory and account data. Keep the secret key with the copy. Nothing schedules this, so run it yourself.

How do I upgrade InvenTree?

Your InvenTree stays on its pinned 1.5.2 images until you move to a newer template version. Save inventree_data and inventree_postgres first, and read the upstream release and migration notes. Nothing upgrades automatically, and a redeploy keeps both volumes.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
