Kinto Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Kinto hosting on xCloud gives you a self-hosted JSON storage API on your own domain. Deploy Kinto and xCloud runs the pinned official image beside a private PostgreSQL, generates the database password and the two HMAC secrets, sets the admin password you choose or a random one, publishes the API and the Admin UI over HTTPS, and keeps all data on one persistent volume. Sign in at the Admin UI and create your first bucket.

What is Kinto?

Self-hosted Kinto is a minimalist JSON storage service with synchronisation and sharing abilities. Applications read and write buckets, collections and records over an HTTP API, and the Kinto Admin web UI lets people manage them in a browser. It is an open-source option for apps that would otherwise rely on a hosted JSON backend service, and it is licensed Apache-2.0.

On xCloud the template runs kinto/kinto-server 26.4.0 beside postgres 17, both pinned by digest, with PostgreSQL holding storage, permissions and cache. Kinto itself is stateless, and the kinto_db_data volume is the only persistent data. Only the default bucket, Admin UI and Accounts plugins are enabled, so records are JSON only and nothing else is stored. Account creation is limited to the admin account.

From Sign-Up to a Live Kinto API In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a JSON storage API normally means a database, generated secrets and a locked-down account system before a single bucket can be created. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account, pick Kinto from the OneClick catalog, choose a domain, and enter an Admin Password (8-64 characters) or leave it empty to generate one.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the pinned Kinto 26.4.0 image with a digest-pinned PostgreSQL 17 backend, apply database migrations on first start, and publish the API and Admin UI over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Create Your First Bucket

Save the admin password from the protected installation credentials, open https://<your domain>/v1/admin/, sign in with Kinto Account Auth as admin, and create your first bucket and collection.

A JSON Storage Service: Everything Kinto Does

Kinto runs in full here — its JSON storage and sync API and the Admin UI, on infrastructure you control.

  • A JSON Storage And Sync API

Buckets, collections and records for apps that need storage without building a backend from scratch.

  • A Built-In Admin UI

Browse and edit records at /v1/admin/ without writing API calls by hand.

  • Account Creation Limited To Admin

Only the admin account can create accounts and buckets by default — no open self-registration.

  • Storage, Permissions And Cache In PostgreSQL

Everything Kinto stores lives in its PostgreSQL backend, with no published port of its own.

  • Per-Install Secrets

A per-install PostgreSQL password and two HMAC secrets replace the image's fixed defaults.

  • Restart-Safe Records

Records, permissions and cache live in PostgreSQL on a persistent volume, so they persist across restarts of both containers.

Everything You Need To Run Your Your API, Always On

Managed hosting for Kinto, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Kinto 26.4.0 deployed instantly
  • Private PostgreSQL database included
  • Admin-only account creation
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Kinto

  • Store JSON records for an app

A developer keeps an application's data in buckets, collections and records behind an HTTP API, on a PostgreSQL database they control.

  • Manage data in the Admin UI

An admin signs in to the Kinto Admin web UI and creates buckets and collections or edits records by hand, without writing API calls.

  • Synchronise and share data

A team uses Kinto's synchronisation and sharing abilities so several clients read the same collection and permissions decide who can write.

  • Give each user a default bucket

An owner reopens account creation, which the template turns off, so every registered user gets a default bucket of their own.

Kinto vs Alternatives

PocketBase
PocketBase is a backend with its own OneClick page. Kinto vs PocketBase: Kinto focuses on JSON storage with sharing, over an HTTP API and a PostgreSQL database.
Supabase
Supabase is a backend platform with its own OneClick page. Kinto is the narrower tool: JSON records, permissions and sync, with the Admin UI included.
CouchDB
CouchDB is a document database with its own OneClick page. Kinto stores JSON in PostgreSQL and exposes buckets, collections and records through one API.
Hosted JSON backends
A hosted backend keeps your records on someone else's servers. Kinto runs the API and the PostgreSQL database on a Cloud VPS you control.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Is Kinto free and open source?

Yes. Kinto is Apache-2.0 licensed, which makes the code free to read, run and change. The xCloud charge is the dedicated Cloud VPS and nothing more. The template enables only the default bucket, Admin UI and Accounts plugins and adds no paid tier.

Can I run Kinto with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Kinto Docker hosting without the assembly. It starts the kinto/kinto-server 26.4.0 image beside postgres 17, both pinned by digest, applies migrations at start, proxies port 8888 behind HTTPS and keeps data on the kinto_db_data volume.

How much RAM does Kinto need?

The manifest floor is 1 GB of RAM, one core and 4 GB of disk, with PostgreSQL alongside. The 6 GB Cloud VPS sold here leaves headroom above that floor for a Kinto cloud install. Kinto itself is stateless, so growth lands in the database.

Which database does Kinto use?

PostgreSQL 17, in a private container with a generated password and no published port. It serves storage, permissions and cache. Upstream recommends PostgreSQL as the backend for production, and this template uses no in-memory backend. The data lives on the kinto_db_data volume.

Does Kinto have a web interface?

Yes. The Kinto Admin UI is at the v1 admin path on your domain. Sign in as admin with the password from the installation credentials. The API root is at the v1 path, and it answers without login along with the heartbeat, but records need an account.

Can anyone create an account on my Kinto?

No. Upstream lets anyone register, and the first registrant of admin becomes the administrator. The template turns that off, limits account creation to admin and creates the admin account at install. To allow open signup, change the account-create principal in the Environment editor.

Does Kinto store attachments?

Not in this template. The attachment and email plugins are not enabled, so Kinto stores JSON records only. If you need files, keep them in separate storage and store a link in the record, or review the upstream plugin documentation first.

How do I back up Kinto?

Back up the kinto_db_data volume, which is the PostgreSQL data directory and the only persistent data. You can also dump the database with pg_dump from inside the database container. Keep the HMAC secrets and DB_PASSWORD from the environment, and test a restore before relying on a copy.

How do I update Kinto?

Your install stays on its pinned 26.4.0 version until you adopt a newer template version. Back up kinto_db_data first and read the upstream release notes, since Kinto applies database migrations at start. Afterwards sign in to the Admin UI and open an existing collection.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
