Koito Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Koito hosting on xCloud gives you a self-hosted scrobble server on your own domain. Deploy Koito and xCloud runs the pinned official image as one container with an embedded SQLite database, sets a generated admin password, turns the login gate on so signed-out visitors cannot read your statistics, publishes it over HTTPS, and keeps history, the image cache and the import folder on one persistent volume.

What is Koito?

Self-hosted Koito is a modern, themeable, ListenBrainz-compatible scrobbler for people who want control over their data and insight into their listening habits. Players and scrobblers send it what you listen to, and it turns that into charts and statistics with artist and album artwork. Upstream lists relaying to other scrobblers and imports from Maloja, ListenBrainz, Last.fm and Spotify. It is MIT licensed, and upstream warns it is still unstable.

On xCloud the template runs gabehf/koito v0.3.2, pinned by digest, as one container with SQLite, so there is no separate database. The koito_data volume holds the database, image cache and import folder. There is a single administrator account, and artwork lookups need outbound internet access. Nothing else runs beside the container, and the login gate is on by default.

From Sign-Up to a Live Scrobble Server In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a scrobbler normally means a container, a data volume, a first-boot password, a domain and a certificate before the first listen. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Koito from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Koito image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with an embedded SQLite database — no separate database to run. We mount the koito_data volume, generate the admin password, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Sign In And Scrobble

Open your HTTPS Koito URL and sign in as admin with the generated password from the installation credentials. Then open Settings, API Keys, copy a key, and set your scrobbler's ListenBrainz URL to https://<your-domain>/apis/listenbrainz/1 with the key as the token.

A Listening History Dashboard: Everything Koito Does

Koito runs in full here: a scrobble endpoint, listening charts and imports on your own domain, with the data on a volume you own.

  • ListenBrainz-Compatible Scrobbling

Any ListenBrainz-compatible client can submit listens through a single API URL and API key.

  • Charts And Statistics

See top artists, albums and tracks over a day, week, month, year or all time, with automatic artist and album artwork.

  • A Login Gate On By Default

Statistics are hidden from signed-out visitors by default, and scrobble submission always requires an API key.

  • Import Your History

Bring in exports from Last.fm, Spotify, ListenBrainz, Maloja and Koito by placing the files in the import folder of the data volume.

  • Embedded SQLite

There is no separate database container; the database, image cache and import folder all live on the koito_data volume.

  • History That Survives A Restart

Listening history, API keys and the admin account were still present after an xCloud Restart in QA.

Everything You Need To Run Your Scrobble Server 24/7

Managed hosting for Koito, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Koito v0.3.2 deployed instantly
  • Official image pinned by digest
  • Admin password generated for you
  • Kept behind xCloud nginx
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Koito

  • Own your listening history

Keep every scrobble, chart and statistic on your own server instead of a third-party service, with the data in a single volume you can back up.

  • Collect scrobbles from the players you already use

Point any ListenBrainz-compatible client at one API URL with an API key, and see each listen land on the dashboard.

  • See your top artists, albums and tracks

Browse charts and statistics with artist and album artwork filled in automatically, without running a separate database.

  • Move your history across

Import exports from Last.fm, Spotify, ListenBrainz, Maloja or Koito through the data volume's import folder, then keep scrobbling to the same place.

Koito vs Alternatives

Last.fm
Last.fm is a hosted scrobbling service. As a Koito alternative to Last.fm, your listening history lives on your own server, and Koito can import a Last.fm export from the data volume.
ListenBrainz
ListenBrainz is an open scrobbling service whose API Koito is compatible with, so clients that submit to ListenBrainz can submit to your own Koito instead.
Maloja
Maloja is another self-hosted scrobble server with its own OneClick page. Koito vs Maloja: Koito can import Maloja exports, so you can move an existing history across.
Multi-Scrobbler
Multi-Scrobbler collects plays from several sources and has its own OneClick page. Upstream suggests using it, or a Koito relay, alongside Koito rather than instead of it.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Is Koito free and open source?

Yes. Koito is MIT licensed and its code is open. What you pay for is the dedicated Cloud VPS from xCloud. Upstream calls the project unstable, so expect breaking changes between releases and pin the version you test.

Can I run Koito with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Koito Docker hosting without the assembly. It starts the gabehf/koito v0.3.2 image, pinned by digest, as one container with embedded SQLite, proxies port 4110 behind HTTPS and mounts the koito_data volume at /etc/koito.

How much RAM does Koito need?

Koito's manifest floor is 512 MB of RAM, one core and 2 GB of disk. We sell the 6 GB Cloud VPS for a Koito cloud install, mostly as headroom. The image cache and your listening history are what grow with use.

Does Koito work with ListenBrainz clients?

Yes. Upstream calls Koito compatible with anything that scrobbles to ListenBrainz. In your scrobbler, set the ListenBrainz URL to your domain with the ListenBrainz path from the template README, and use the Default API key from Settings as the user token.

How do I import my Last.fm history into Koito?

Koito reads Last.fm, Spotify, ListenBrainz, Maloja and Koito exports from the import folder inside the data volume at startup. There is no upload page, so copy the export files into that folder on the server and restart. Check the first charts afterwards.

Is my listening history public on Koito?

Not by default. The login gate is on, so only signed-in users can read statistics, and Koito has a single administrator account. Setting the login gate to false in the Environment editor makes your history readable by anyone who knows the address.

Does Koito need internet access?

Yes, for artwork. Koito looks up artist and album artwork and metadata from MusicBrainz, Deezer and the Cover Art Archive, so the server needs outbound internet access. Scrobbles themselves arrive from your own clients over your domain.

How do I back up Koito?

Back up the koito_data volume, which is the complete persistence boundary: it holds the SQLite database, the image cache and the import folder. Protect the backup, because it contains your listening history, the administrator password hash, sessions and API keys.

How do I update Koito?

Your install stays on its pinned v0.3.2 version until you adopt a newer template version. Back up the koito_data volume first and read the upstream release notes, since upstream warns of breaking changes. Afterwards sign in, check recent scrobbles and confirm your clients still submit.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
