What is Kutt?

Kutt is a free, open-source, modern URL shortener with custom aliases, expiration controls, QR codes and per-link statistics. This template deploys version 3.2.6.

Is Kutt free?

Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT License. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the application itself.

Can I self-host Kutt?

Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the vendor-maintained Kutt 3.2.6 image pinned by immutable digest, provisions a private PostgreSQL database and publishes Kutt's web interface over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.

Do I need an account to shorten a link?

No. Anonymous link creation is enabled from first boot (DISALLOW_ANONYMOUS_LINKS=false), so you can create and use short links immediately without signing up.

Can I create user accounts?

Not out of the box — registration is disabled by default (DISALLOW_REGISTRATION=true) because Kutt verifies new accounts by email, and this template configures no SMTP. To enable registration, configure Kutt's SMTP settings and switch DISALLOW_REGISTRATION to false together in the Environment editor, then restart the app.

What does xCloud configure automatically?

The private PostgreSQL database, generated database credentials, the 64-character JWT signing secret, the persistent kutt_postgres volume, the domain and the HTTPS route. Only Kutt's web interface is published through xCloud-managed ingress; PostgreSQL has no public port.

Is there a generated admin login?

No. Kutt has no separate admin account created for you — there is nothing to sign into by default beyond the anonymous link-shortening flow, until you enable registration yourself.

What should I back up?

The kutt_postgres volume, as one unit. It is the complete persistent recovery boundary for links, users, domains, statistics and configuration. Quiesce writes for a volume-level backup, keep encrypted off-server copies, and test restoring it in isolation before you rely on it.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Kutt?

No. The template pins Kutt 3.2.6 by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing the pinned image, review upstream release and migration notes and test the upgrade against a restored backup.

What are the server requirements?

The template manifest asks for 1024 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 5 GB of disk as a floor — Kutt plus PostgreSQL is lightweight. This page sells the 6 GB tier, well above what Kutt itself needs, so there's room for other work on the same server.

Can I use a custom domain for individual short links?

Kutt supports per-link custom domains, but this baseline does not configure them — that requires separate DNS and TLS planning you would handle yourself inside Kutt and at your DNS provider.

Is Redis required?

No. Redis is optional in Kutt and is intentionally disabled in this template. PostgreSQL is the complete persistence boundary.

What survives a restart?

Everything on kutt_postgres, because it is a persistent named volume. A restart does not touch existing links, users, statistics or configuration. Keep the generated JWT secret and database credentials stable for a retained installation.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Kutt?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Kutt project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Kutt project.

Can I run other apps on the same server?

Yes. It is a dedicated Cloud VPS, not a locked appliance, so you can deploy other OneClick apps or your own sites beside it as long as the resources are there.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
