What is Navidrome?

Navidrome is an open-source, web-based music collection server and streamer licensed under GPL-3.0. Self-hosted Navidrome is a self-hosted music server and streamer: it handles very large collections, reads your existing tags and metadata, gives each user their own play counts, playlists and favourites, and works with Subsonic, Madsonic and Airsonic clients. Its README describes it as a personal Spotify for music you already own.

This template runs one Navidrome 0.64.1 container, a single Go binary with its built-in SQLite database, behind xCloud's nginx on your domain. The navidrome_data volume holds the database and artwork cache, and navidrome_music is the library root. The admin account is created for you, and because there is no browser upload, music is copied into that volume.

Jellyfin: Jellyfin is a media server for movies, TV, music and photos, and its xCloud template asks for 2 GB of RAM. Navidrome is built for music alone, and its template asks for 512 MB.

What apps work with Navidrome?

Navidrome is compatible with Subsonic, Madsonic and Airsonic clients, so mobile and desktop apps that speak the Subsonic API can connect to your domain. It also has a built-in web player. Upstream keeps the list of tested apps in its documentation overview.

How much RAM does Navidrome need?

The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor. The 6 GB Cloud VPS on this page is far above what a music server needs. Library size, artwork cache and on-the-fly transcoding, which uses CPU, are what grow the requirement.

How do I get my music onto the server?

Navidrome has no browser upload. The navidrome_music volume is mounted at /music and is the library root; copy files into it as a sudo user, for example with docker cp into the container. New files are detected and scanned automatically.

Is Navidrome better than Jellyfin for music?

It depends on the job. Navidrome is built only for music and works with Subsonic clients. Jellyfin also serves movies, TV and photos, and its xCloud template asks for more RAM. If you only want a music streamer, Navidrome is the narrower tool.

Does Navidrome support multiple users?

Yes. Each user has their own play counts, playlists and favourites. The template creates the first admin for you, and you add accounts for other listeners under Users inside Navidrome. Everyone shares the same library on the navidrome_music volume.

What should I back up on Navidrome?

Take a backup of both volumes together. navidrome_data holds the SQLite database (users, playlists, play counts, favourites, library index) and artwork cache; navidrome_music holds the files. Stop the container before copying navidrome_data. Users, playlists and history live only in that volume.

Is Navidrome free?

Yes. Navidrome is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, so no Navidrome licence fee applies. The xCloud charge is the Cloud VPS and deployment, and the disk space your music collection needs is the main running cost.

Can I run Navidrome with Docker on xCloud?

Yes, and Navidrome Docker hosting is what this template does. Upstream publishes the deluan/navidrome image; xCloud deploys it from a digest-pinned template, with the two volumes, domain, HTTPS and admin account already configured so you do not maintain a Compose file yourself.

Is there a Navidrome cloud option on xCloud?

Navidrome's README points to a separate cloud-hosted option run by another provider. xCloud is different: it deploys the open-source Navidrome image on a Cloud VPS you pay for, so the library and server are yours. xCloud has no partnership with, or endorsement from, Navidrome.

How do I upgrade Navidrome on xCloud?

Navidrome never updates itself here: the digest-pinned 0.64.1 image stays on existing sites until you adopt a newer template. Back up both volumes, read the upstream release notes, then move to a newer template version on your schedule and check sign-in, playback and scanning.

Why is there no first-run setup screen?

Navidrome normally shows a create-first-admin form to whoever opens the site first. On a public URL that would let anyone claim the server, so the template creates the admin user from the install-form password during first start. The form is never shown.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
