Obsidian LiveSync hosting on xCloud gives you a private sync server for your vaults. xCloud runs Apache CouchDB 3.5.2.1 with the Self-hosted LiveSync settings applied, creates the sync database, generates the admin password, mounts persistent storage and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes — then you point the plug-in on each device at that one URL.
Self-hosted LiveSync is a community-developed synchronisation plug-in for Obsidian. It stores your vault in CouchDB, so every device that points at the same server keeps the same notes.
This app is the server half: an Apache CouchDB instance with the settings the plug-in needs already applied. You install the plug-in in Obsidian and enter your HTTPS URL, database name and admin credentials. The plug-in is not compatible with the official Obsidian Sync.
A LiveSync server normally means CouchDB, single-node setup, required authentication, CORS, a reverse proxy and a certificate before the first note syncs. This is the same result without assembling any of it.
Step 01
Create your xCloud account, pick Obsidian LiveSync from the OneClick catalog and choose a domain. Set the CouchDB admin username (default admin) and the database name (default obsidiannotes), and leave the password blank to have one generated.
Step 02
One click. We run the official CouchDB image pinned by immutable digest as a single container, bind port 5984 to loopback and publish it over HTTPS on your domain. Single-node mode, required authentication, CORS for Obsidian and larger document limits are applied, the sync database is created, and the couchdb_data and couchdb_config volumes persist your notes and settings.
Step 03
Save the admin password from the protected installation credentials. In Obsidian, install the Self-hosted LiveSync community plug-in and enter your HTTPS server URL, the database name and the admin credentials. Repeat on each device to start syncing.
A CouchDB server prepared for the Self-hosted LiveSync plug-in, on your own domain.
CouchDB is served over HTTPS on your domain, which Obsidian mobile requires, and CORS is set for the Obsidian desktop and mobile apps.
Single-node setup, required authentication, CORS and larger document limits are applied at install, and the sync database is created for you.
The admin account is created at first start, and every endpoint except the /_up health check needs a login; anonymous and wrong-password requests get 401 on QA.
Browse databases and documents in CouchDB's Fauxton interface at /_utils.
The proxy accepts requests up to 1 GB, and LiveSync uploads in chunks.
Notes and attachments live on the couchdb_data volume and CouchDB's runtime settings on couchdb_config, so both persist through an xCloud Restart.
A private sync server for Obsidian on its own HTTPS domain, with the server work handled for you.
Keep the same notes on desktop, phone and tablet through a single HTTPS URL, which is what Obsidian mobile requires.
Keep the synced data on a server you control instead of a hosted sync service. The plug-in can also add end-to-end encryption, so the server holds encrypted data.
Sync images and PDFs alongside text: the proxy accepts requests up to 1 GB and the plug-in uploads in chunks.
Open CouchDB's Fauxton admin page at /_utils to browse the sync database and its documents when you need to check what a device has uploaded.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian GeovannyI've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin PinedaI'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting
Leo KooHow Cloud Nine Web Elevated Client Experience While Streamlining Hosting Operations using xCloud
Ed EllinghamxCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.
Dumitru ButucelxCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.
Waqar AhmedTrust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍
Rahul SinghSo far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.
Massimo VillaCame from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson ElI've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony LewisI came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowellI like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose
David McCanHow Kevin Heinrichs Cut Hosting Costs by 84% While Running WooCommerce & Node.js Sites Efficiently
Kevin HeinrichsI had 150 sites on cloudways and am in the process of moving them to xcloud. Much faster and better priced.
Dan SpinozaDear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.
Rahil MaknojiaCame from runcloud. Tried xcloud and never came back.

No. Self-hosted LiveSync is a community plug-in that syncs through your own CouchDB server. It cannot sync with Obsidian Sync, so do not run both on the same vault.
Yes. CouchDB is served over HTTPS on your domain, which Obsidian mobile requires, and CORS is set for the Obsidian desktop and mobile apps.
The HTTPS server URL, the database name, and the admin username and password from the installation credentials. Use the same values on each device.
No. xCloud deploys the CouchDB server. You install the Self-hosted LiveSync community plug-in inside Obsidian on each device and point it at your server.
Yes. Sign in to Fauxton at https://<your-domain>/_utils to browse databases and documents. Every endpoint except the /_up health check requires a login.
The plug-in supports end-to-end encryption, and when you enable it the server stores encrypted data. Turning it on is a setting in the plug-in, not something the server does for you.
Changing the environment values after install does not rotate an existing admin. Change the password in Fauxton or through the CouchDB REST API while signed in with the current credentials.
The couchdb_data and couchdb_config volumes, plus the admin credentials from the Environment editor. Upstream also recommends backing up your vault before installing or upgrading the plug-in.
Yes, with two things to know. On Cloudflare's Free plan each upload request is capped at 100 MB, which normal syncing stays under because LiveSync uploads in chunks. Cloudflare also buffers CouchDB's continuous change feed, but LiveSync uses long-polling instead, and that worked on QA.
No. The template pins CouchDB 3.5.2.1 by tag and immutable digest; new installations use the pinned release and existing sites are not upgraded automatically. Read the CouchDB release notes, then bump the readable tag and the image digest together.
The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of disk; measured idle use on QA was about 75 to 84 MiB. The 6 GB tier is the entry rung, leaving room for large vaults and other apps on the same server.
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Self-hosted LiveSync plug-in, Obsidian or Apache CouchDB has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for open-source software.
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
Deploy the CouchDB server in minutes, then connect the plug-in on every device you write on.
