Ocular Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy Ocular hosting and run a self-hosted budget tracker on a server you control, instead of handing your figures to a third-party finance service. xCloud runs the pinned Ocular v2.4.1 image as a single container with an embedded database, seeds your administrator login with a generated 24-character password, mounts a persistent volume and publishes it over HTTPS in minutes, so only people you add can see your figures.

What is Ocular?

Ocular is an open-source personal budget tracker that upstream describes as fancy, simplistic and straight-forward. It has a dashboard with statistics and charts including a Sankey diagram, budgets across multiple years with carry-over, an all-time overview, light and dark themes, several languages, and it installs as a Progressive Web App. A self-hosted Ocular is an alternative to a subscription budgeting service such as YNAB, and the code is released under the MIT licence.

On xCloud the template runs Ocular v2.4.1 from the official image, pinned by digest, as a single container with an embedded database on the ocular_data volume. The administrator is seeded for you with a generated password, there is no public sign-up, and every page and API call needs a login. Upstream can import a Google Sheets annual planner and export your data as JSON.

From Sign-Up to a Live Budget Tracker In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a budget app normally means a container, a volume, a first user, a domain and a certificate before the first expense is logged. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick Ocular from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and an Admin Username (letters, numbers and underscores; the default is admin).

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official Ocular image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with its embedded database, mount the ocular_data volume, generate a 24-character administrator password and a session signing secret, and publish it over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Enter Your First Budget

Open your HTTPS Ocular URL and sign in with your username and the generated password from the protected installation credentials. Change that password in your account settings, then enter your first budget values.

Everything Ocular Does, On Your Own Server

Ocular runs in full here: a budget tracker with a dashboard, charts and yearly overviews, on your own domain with your data on your own volume.

  • Dashboard And Charts

A dashboard with extensive statistics and multiple charts, including a Sankey diagram, shows where the money goes.

  • Budgets Across Years

Track budgets across multiple years, carry a budget over to the next year and set the financial year to start at any month.

  • All-Time Overview

An all-time overview of your budgets, with analytics, sits next to the yearly view.

  • Themes, Languages And Currencies

Light and dark themes, multi-language support and all common currencies are built in.

  • Mobile And PWA

Ocular is optimised for mobile devices and can be installed as a Progressive Web App.

  • Login Required Everywhere

There is no public sign-up: only users an administrator creates can log in, and every page and API call requires a login.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.
Kevin Pineda
I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Is Ocular free?

Yes. Ocular is MIT licensed, so there is no subscription or per-user fee for the budgeting app. Your cost is the Cloud VPS that keeps the embedded database on ocular_data, however many accounts an administrator creates.

How much RAM does Ocular need?

The manifest asks for 128 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 1 GB of disk, and QA saw roughly 18 MiB idle. That is a very small Go service. We sell the 6 GB tier, which leaves the server free for other apps beside your budget.

Can you self-host Ocular with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Ocular Docker hosting without the setup: the official ghcr.io/simonwep/ocular v2.4.1 image pinned by digest, one container with an embedded database, the ocular_data volume mounted and HTTPS on your own domain. No separate database service is needed.

Can I import my Google Sheets budget into Ocular?

Upstream says you can import data from a Google Sheets annual planner and export your data as JSON. The template changes nothing there, so you run the import inside Ocular after your first sign-in. Check the upstream docs for the sheet format first.

Does Ocular sync with my bank?

No. Upstream embeds its own database and this template adds no bank syncing, so you enter or import your figures yourself. Actual Budget, which has its own OneClick page here, offers optional bank-import integrations instead.

Can other people register on my Ocular server?

No. There is no public registration; an administrator creates users inside Ocular, and every page and API call requires a login. Failed logins are rate limited with growing lockouts, and the login cookie is Secure and SameSite=Strict.

How do I back up Ocular?

Back up the ocular_data volume, which holds the embedded database for every user and their budget data. Nothing schedules the copy, so run it yourself, and you can also export your own data as JSON from inside the app.

How do I upgrade Ocular?

You stay on Ocular v2.4.1 until you adopt a newer template version. Copy ocular_data first, because the embedded database holds every user's figures, and read upstream's release notes. Redeploying keeps the volume; nothing upgrades the app on its own.

How do I sign in the first time?

Use the administrator username you chose at install and the generated password from the protected installation credentials, over HTTPS. The account is seeded once, so later environment edits do not change it; change passwords inside Ocular.

Are there limits on stored data?

By default each user can store 2 data entries of up to 512 KB each, which is plenty for budget figures. The limits are adjustable in the environment file: uncomment the setting, then Save & Redeploy.

Is there an Ocular cloud service I can use?

This page is your own Ocular cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source app with your budget data on a volume you control. It is a private instance rather than a shared service, so you decide who gets an account.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
