Oryx Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Oryx hosting on xCloud lets you deploy Oryx, an open-source live streaming and video-on-demand platform built on the SRS media server, on a server you own. xCloud runs the pinned container, publishes the web console over HTTPS, generates the console password and keeps recordings and settings on a persistent volume. You open the RTMP, SRT and WebRTC ports in your own firewall.

What is Oryx?

Oryx, formerly SRS Stack, is an open-source, all-in-one video platform for live streaming and WebRTC services, built with Go, React, SRS and FFmpeg. It takes streams in over RTMP, WebRTC or SRT and delivers them over HLS, HTTP-FLV or WebRTC, with recording, live transcoding, multi-platform restreaming and virtual live streaming driven from a web console. A self-hosted Oryx is a live streaming server of your own. It is MIT licensed.

On xCloud it is Oryx v7.15.26, upstream's ossrs/oryx image pinned by digest, as a single container that bundles the streaming server, an embedded Redis and the console. The oryx_data volume holds the console password, stream secrets, recordings and uploads. The console runs over HTTPS, while RTMP, SRT and WebRTC media use raw ports on the server IP that you open in your firewall.

From Sign-Up to a Live Oryx Install In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a live streaming server normally means a container, a certificate, a generated password and open firewall ports before a single stream can go live. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account, pick Oryx from the OneClick catalog and select a domain — no extra fields, xCloud generates the credentials.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the pinned Oryx v7.15.26 image, generate the Console Password, and publish the console and HTTP API over HTTPS on your domain, shown in the protected installation credentials.

  3. Step 03

    Sign In And Start Streaming

Open the HTTPS Oryx URL and sign in with the password (no username). Open the Scenarios page, copy the stream name and secret, and point your encoder at the RTMP server address shown.

Everything Oryx Does, On Your Own Server

Oryx runs in full here — the upstream console, RTMP, SRT and WebRTC ingest, recording and restreaming, on infrastructure you control.

  • Ingest And Delivery In One Server

Ingest live video over RTMP, SRT or WebRTC and deliver over HLS, HTTP-FLV or WebRTC.

  • A Web Console For Every Scenario

Web console for scenarios, recording, transcoding, restreaming and virtual live.

  • Password-Protected Console Over HTTPS

Console served over managed HTTPS and protected by a generated password.

  • Verified End To End

Verified end to end: a real RTMP publish played back over the domain as HLS and HTTP-FLV (h264 + aac).

  • Secret-Gated Publishing

Publishing requires the stream secret; unauthenticated publishes and API calls are rejected.

  • Restart-Safe Credentials And Recordings

The console password, API token and publish secret survive an xCloud Restart, as do recordings and settings stored in the data volume.

Everything You Need To Run Your Live Streaming 24/7

Managed hosting for Oryx, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • Oryx v7.15.26 deployed instantly
  • Generated console password
  • HTTPS console and HTTP API
  • Persistent data volume for recordings and secrets
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With Oryx

  • Publish a live stream from your encoder

Point OBS or another encoder at your RTMP address with the stream name and secret from the console, then deliver the stream to viewers over HLS or HTTP-FLV from your own server.

  • Restream to several platforms at once

Send one incoming stream on to other platforms from the console, so you broadcast once from your server instead of running a separate output for each destination.

  • Record broadcasts to disk

Record streams to local disk and transcode them with FFmpeg, so a webinar or event leaves a file you can keep, with the disk space you manage yourself.

  • Run a virtual live stream from a file

Upload a video and broadcast it as a virtual live stream, so a pre-recorded session goes out on schedule as though it were live.

Oryx vs Alternatives

Hosted streaming services
A hosted service runs the ingest and delivery for you. Oryx keeps them on a server you control, with RTMP, SRT and WebRTC ingest and recordings stored in your own volume.
OvenMediaEngine
OvenMediaEngine has its own OneClick page. In an Oryx vs OvenMediaEngine comparison, Oryx is built on the SRS media server and adds a web console with recording, transcoding, restreaming and virtual live.
MediaMTX
MediaMTX has its own OneClick page. Oryx adds a web console on top of SRS, with a password login, recording, FFmpeg transcoding and an HTTP Open API.
Owncast
Owncast has its own OneClick page. Oryx is a streaming platform driven from a console, taking RTMP, SRT or WebRTC in and offering HLS, HTTP-FLV or WebRTC out.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How much RAM does Oryx need?

The template floor is 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 10 GB of disk, with the streaming server, embedded Redis and console in one container. The 6 GB plan is well above that, but recordings and uploads fill the disk, so watch free space.

Can you self-host Oryx with Docker?

Yes, and this template is oryx docker hosting without the setup: the official ossrs/oryx image pinned by digest, one oryx_data volume, a generated console password and HTTPS for the console, with RTMP, SRT and WebRTC ports allocated on the server.

Which streaming protocols does Oryx support?

Upstream lists RTMP, WebRTC and SRT for ingest and HLS, HTTP-FLV and WebRTC for delivery. Here RTMP uses a TCP port, while SRT and WebRTC media use UDP ports, each published on its own allocated host port.

Do I need to open firewall ports for Oryx?

Yes. The platform does not open them, so open the RTMP, SRT and WebRTC ports shown in the credentials in your own server firewall. Clients must use the server IP or a DNS-only record, not a proxied one.

How do I sign in to Oryx?

Open the console and enter the generated Console Password; there is no username. The password also protects the console API. Editing MGMT_PASSWORD later does not change it, because it is stored in the data volume after first start.

Is the Oryx console private?

Mostly. The virtual live upload address accepts files without a password, so anyone who can reach the console domain can write uploads to disk, and unused uploads are removed after two hours. Put Basic Auth in front of the domain to keep it private.

Is Oryx free?

Yes. Oryx is MIT licensed, so the software is free to run. The Cloud VPS is your cost, and this Oryx cloud install is sized by your server's CPU, bandwidth and disk.

How do I back up Oryx?

Back up the oryx_data volume, which holds the console password file, the database with stream secrets and settings, recordings, uploads and certificates. Stop and redeploy give Oryx time to save its database, so avoid killing the container.

How do I upgrade Oryx?

The install stays on its pinned v7.15.26 image until you adopt a newer template version. Back up oryx_data first, then check the upstream release notes. Upgrades are never automatic, and a redeploy keeps the volume.

Is Oryx an alternative to hosted streaming services?

For running your own ingest and delivery, yes. Oryx handles RTMP, SRT and WebRTC in and HLS or HTTP-FLV out, with restreaming and recording. Upstream publishes no comparison, and you carry the bandwidth and disk costs.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
