OvenMediaEngine Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy OvenMediaEngine hosting and run your own sub-second live streaming origin. xCloud runs the pinned OvenMediaEngine v0.21.0 official image as a single container, generates the URL signing key that protects publishing, and serves LL-HLS playback and WebRTC signalling over HTTPS on your domain — encoders publish over RTMP, SRT or WebRTC, and streams appear the moment someone publishes.

What is OvenMediaEngine?

OvenMediaEngine (OME) is an open-source sub-second latency streaming server. It ingests live streams over WebRTC, SRT, RTMP and other protocols and streams them to viewers over Low Latency HLS (LL-HLS) and WebRTC.

This template runs OME as a single origin with the default application named app. It has no web UI and no REST API: encoders publish to it and players connect to it.

From Sign-Up to a Live Streaming Origin In 3 Easy Steps

A low-latency streaming origin normally means a server, a container, a hand-written configuration, a signing scheme for publishers, a domain and a certificate before the first frame. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick OvenMediaEngine from the OneClick catalog. Choose your domain and target server — there are no extra fields to fill in, because xCloud generates the signing key.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the official OvenMediaEngine v0.21.0 image as a single container, pinned by immutable digest, with no database or volume, write the server configuration from your install values, generate the URL signing key, and publish LL-HLS playback and WebRTC signalling over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

    Sign A URL And Publish

Save the URL signing key from the protected installation credentials, open the ingest and WebRTC ports in your own server firewall, build a signed publish URL, publish from your encoder, and play at https://your-domain/app/<stream>/llhls.m3u8.

Everything OvenMediaEngine Does, On Your Own Server

OvenMediaEngine runs here as a streaming engine: encoders publish to it, players connect to it, and there is nothing to configure per stream.

  • RTMP, SRT And WebRTC Ingest

Publish under the application name app from RTMP, SRT or WebRTC encoders. The RTMP and SRT ports are public ports you open in your own server firewall.

  • Sub-Second Delivery

Viewers watch over Low Latency HLS or WebRTC. LL-HLS playback and WebRTC signalling are served over xCloud-managed HTTPS on your domain.

  • Signed Publishing URLs

Publishing is refused unless the URL carries a valid policy and signature made with the generated signing key. Unsigned and tampered publishes were rejected in verification.

  • Optional Signed Playback

Playback is open by default. Set SIGNED_PLAYBACK to webrtc, llhls and redeploy to require signed URLs for viewers too.

  • Streams On Demand

A stream exists the moment someone publishes to a name under app. There is no admin console and no per-stream setup.

  • Stateless By Design

The configuration is rebuilt from your install values on every start, so a Restart keeps the same settings and signing key. Nothing is recorded to disk.

What You Can Do With OvenMediaEngine

  • A low-latency origin for your own player

Publish from an encoder and embed an LL-HLS or WebRTC player on your site, the sub-second delivery OvenMediaEngine is built for.

  • WebRTC publishing

Accept WebRTC publishers as well as RTMP and SRT, with the WebRTC signalling served over HTTPS on your domain.

  • Hardware and software encoders over RTMP or SRT

Point OBS or any RTMP or SRT encoder at the server and publish under the application name app, with each publish protected by a signed URL.

  • Private or gated live events

Require signed URLs for playback as well as publishing by setting SIGNED_PLAYBACK to webrtc, llhls, so only viewers you issue a URL to can watch.

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

How do I publish a stream?

Create a signed URL with your signing key and publish to rtmp://<server-ip>:<rtmp-port>/app/<stream>, or use SRT or WebRTC. The installation credentials list the allocated ports. RTMP and SRT ingest go to the server IP or a DNS-only record, not through the HTTPS domain.

Where do viewers watch?

At https://<your-domain>/app/<stream>/llhls.m3u8 for LL-HLS, or over WebRTC at wss://<your-domain>/app/<stream>. Both are served over xCloud-managed HTTPS.

Can anyone watch my stream?

By default anyone who knows the stream name can. Set SIGNED_PLAYBACK to webrtc, llhls in the environment settings and redeploy to require signed playback URLs.

Is there an admin console?

No. OvenMediaEngine here is a streaming engine that encoders publish to and players connect to. There is no web UI and the REST API is switched off.

Which ports do I need to open?

xCloud does not open firewall ports. Open RTMP (TCP), SRT (UDP), WebRTC TURN (TCP), WebRTC media (TCP) and the four WebRTC media UDP ports in your own server firewall; the installation credentials list the exact numbers. Only playback and WebRTC signalling go through the HTTPS domain.

Is ingest encrypted?

No. RTMP and SRT ingest are not encrypted, so a signed URL travels in clear text. Use short expiry values and keep the signing key private.

What happens if I change or lose the signing key?

Changing SIGNING_SECRET and redeploying invalidates every previously signed URL. Use letters and digits only, and keep a copy of the key.

What should I back up?

Nothing on disk, because the template has no volume and records nothing. Keep a copy of the signing key and your environment values.

What survives a restart?

The settings and the signing key, because the configuration is rebuilt from your install values on every start. Live streams are only up while a publisher is connected, so stopping or redeploying the site drops them.

Does xCloud automatically update OvenMediaEngine?

No. The template pins OvenMediaEngine v0.21.0 by immutable digest. Read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

Why does the container log a certificate error at each start?

TLS ends at the xCloud proxy rather than in the container, so OvenMediaEngine logs one certificate error at start. It is harmless.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of disk; measured use in QA was about 13.5 MiB idle and 28.5 MiB while streaming. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, which leaves plenty of headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with OvenMediaEngine?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the OvenMediaEngine project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source OvenMediaEngine project, licensed AGPL-3.0.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
