What is pgAdmin?

pgAdmin is the official web administration interface for PostgreSQL. It is written as a web application in Python and React, and the pgAdmin docs describe a graphical interface for creating, maintaining and using database objects, with a query tool, schema diff, an ERD tool, backup and restore dialogs and user management. A self-hosted pgAdmin replaces a hosted database console or a desktop client on every laptop, under the PostgreSQL License.

Does pgAdmin include a PostgreSQL server?

No. This template deploys pgAdmin alone, and no PostgreSQL server is bundled, created or hosted by it. You register servers you already run, so deploy PostgreSQL separately, on its own OneClick page, if you need one.

How do I add a PostgreSQL server to pgAdmin?

Choose Add New Server, or Servers, Register, Server, then enter the hostname, port, maintenance database, username and password. The PostgreSQL server must be reachable from this xCloud server and must permit its traffic through its own firewall.

Can you self-host pgAdmin with Docker?

Yes. pgAdmin publishes an official container image, and this template is pgAdmin Docker hosting without the setup: the 9.17 image pinned by digest, one volume, a generated administrator password and HTTPS on your own domain.

How much RAM does pgAdmin need?

The manifest floor is 512 MB of RAM, one core and 2 GB of disk. Query results, concurrent sessions, exports and stored user files can need more, though the 6 GB plan leaves ample room.

What can pgAdmin do?

The pgAdmin docs list a query tool, schema diff, an ERD tool, backup and restore dialogs, user management and server groups. It manages PostgreSQL databases; it does not replace backups of the pgAdmin volume itself.

Is pgAdmin open source?

Yes. pgAdmin is licensed under the PostgreSQL License, so the software has no licence fee. You pay only for the Cloud VPS, which makes this a pgAdmin cloud of your own rather than a hosted database console.

How do I reset the pgAdmin password?

PGADMIN_DEFAULT_EMAIL and PASSWORD only create the first administrator, so editing them later changes nothing. Change passwords from pgAdmin's user management after signing in. The bundled Postfix is off, so email resets need an external SMTP service.

Is pgAdmin exposed to the internet?

It is served over HTTPS on your domain behind a login. The container port is bound to localhost and reached through xCloud's proxy. Your databases are not exposed by this template; their firewall, TLS and roles remain yours.

How do I back up pgAdmin?

Back up the whole pgadmin_data volume, which holds the configuration database, registered servers, preferences, sessions and user files. PostgreSQL data is not in it, so back up every database server separately and test a restore.

How do I upgrade pgAdmin?

The install stays on its pinned 9.17 image until you adopt a newer template version. Back up pgadmin_data first and read the pgAdmin release notes. Nothing upgrades automatically, and a redeploy must keep the volume.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
