PgBouncer Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

Deploy PgBouncer hosting and pool PostgreSQL connections for the database you already run. xCloud runs the pinned PgBouncer 1.25.2 image as a single stateless container, builds its configuration from the PostgreSQL host, port, user, password and pool mode you enter, and publishes the pooler on a TCP port of your server in minutes — there is no web interface and no domain.

What is PgBouncer?

PgBouncer is a lightweight connection pooler for PostgreSQL. It sits between your application and the database so many client connections share a small pool of server connections.

On xCloud it runs as a single stateless container with no bundled database and no web interface; you point it at a PostgreSQL server you already run. PgBouncer is licensed under the ISC licence.

From Sign-Up to a Live PgBouncer In Just 3 Easy Steps

A PgBouncer setup normally means a container, a generated config, user authentication, a pool mode and an open port. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account and pick PgBouncer from the OneClick catalog. Enter the PostgreSQL host, port, database user, database password and pool mode.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the community-built PgBouncer image, pinned by immutable digest, as a single container with no volumes and no bundled database, and regenerate its configuration from your environment on every start.

  3. Step 03

    Point Your App At It

Save the connection details from the protected installation credentials, allow this server's address on your PostgreSQL server, open the PgBouncer port in your own firewall for your clients, then use the shown host and port instead of the database with the same database name, user and password.

Everything PgBouncer Does, On Your Own Server

PgBouncer runs in full here: a connection pooler in front of the PostgreSQL server you already have.

  • Fewer Server Connections

Serve many client connections with a small pool of PostgreSQL server connections.

  • Session, Transaction Or Statement Pooling

Choose the pool mode at install time; transaction pooling breaks session state such as SET and advisory locks.

  • Works With Your PostgreSQL

Use any PostgreSQL server that accepts connections from your xCloud server.

  • md5 Client Sign-In

Clients sign in with the database user and password you provide; a wrong password was rejected in verification.

  • Very Small Footprint

Measured idle use on QA was about 1.4-1.9 MiB.

  • Stateless By Design

There are no volumes; the configuration is regenerated from the environment on every start and the pooler was healthy again within seconds of an xCloud Restart.

Everything You Need To Run Your Connection Pooler 24/7

Managed hosting for PgBouncer, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • PgBouncer 1.25.2 deployed instantly
  • Community image pinned by digest
  • md5 client authentication
  • No volumes to back up
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots
  • Server security updates included
  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With PgBouncer

  • Cap connections to a busy PostgreSQL

Let many application connections share a small pool of server connections.

  • Pick the pooling mode your app needs

Use session, transaction or statement pooling, chosen at install.

  • Put one pooler in front of an existing database

Keep the same database name, user and password and change only the host and port in your application.

  • Run a pooler with almost no overhead

A single container with no volumes that idled at about 1.4-1.9 MiB on QA.

PgBouncer vs Alternatives

Connecting directly to PostgreSQL
Every client connection becomes a server connection; PgBouncer reuses a small pool of them.
Application-level connection pools
A pool inside each app process is not shared across processes or services; PgBouncer pools in one place in front of the database.
Raising the PostgreSQL connection limit
A higher limit lets more connections in; PgBouncer keeps the number of server connections small instead.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!

I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.

I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

What does PgBouncer do?

It sits between your application and PostgreSQL and reuses a small pool of server connections for many client connections.

Does it include a database?

No. It pools connections for a PostgreSQL server you already run.

How do I connect?

Use the host, port, user and password from the installation credentials, with your own database name.

Is there a web interface?

No. PgBouncer has no web interface and no domain; a public TCP endpoint is published on the server address.

Is the connection encrypted?

No. Traffic between your application and PgBouncer is not encrypted; use a private network, tunnel or a firewall allowlist, and open the port only for your application servers.

Which auth setting must I avoid?

Do not set PGBOUNCER_AUTH_TYPE to any.

Does it test my database at install?

No. A wrong host or password shows up as a client error on first connection.

What should I back up?

Nothing from PgBouncer itself; it has no volumes and its connection settings live in the environment file. Keep your PostgreSQL backups as before.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update PgBouncer?

No. The template pins PgBouncer 1.25.2 by immutable digest; existing sites are not automatically upgraded. Back up first, read the upstream release notes, then bump the readable tag and digest together on your own schedule. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk; measured idle use in QA was about 1.4-1.9 MiB. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung, with real headroom above that baseline.

Is xCloud officially partnered with PgBouncer?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the PgBouncer project has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source PgBouncer project.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
