What is RabbitMQ?

Is RabbitMQ free?
Yes — RabbitMQ is free and open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host RabbitMQ?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official RabbitMQ management image pinned by immutable digest, mounts its persistent broker volume, and publishes the management console and AMQP endpoint on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
Who becomes the administrator, and how do I sign in?
xCloud generates a 24-character password for the default user "admin" on first boot, shown once in your Credentials panel alongside the management console URL and AMQP host and port. Sign in to the console, or connect an application worker over AMQP, using that same username and password.
Is the AMQP port really public?
Yes, and that is by design, not an oversight — this template publishes the AMQP port (5672) on all interfaces so your application workers can connect from outside the server. If you do not need public access, restrict the port with your server's firewall. The management console itself is not directly exposed; it is bound to loopback and reachable only through xCloud's managed HTTPS route.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
The pinned RabbitMQ image, the persistent rabbitmq_data volume, a generated administrator password and Erlang cookie, the domain, the HTTPS route to the management console, and the public AMQP port. There are no separate database credentials to manage — RabbitMQ stores its own state internally.
Can I change the admin password after installation?
Yes, but not by editing the environment values — RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_USER and RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_PASS are only read on the very first container boot against an empty volume. Changing them and redeploying does not affect a running broker. Rotate credentials from the management console or with rabbitmqctl, then update the matching environment values to keep them in sync for reference.
What should I back up?
The rabbitmq_data volume, which holds the broker's Mnesia database — queue and exchange definitions, bindings, users and permissions — plus persisted messages on durable queues. Quiesce the application before backing it up so the snapshot is consistent.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update RabbitMQ?
No. The template pins RabbitMQ by immutable image digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing the pin, review upstream release and migration notes, back up the data volume, update the image, then verify console sign-in, queue listings, and a publish/consume round trip.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 512 MB of RAM, one CPU core and 2 GB of disk as a floor — RabbitMQ is a lightweight, single-container broker. This page sells the 6 GB tier as comfortable headroom above that floor, with room for growing queue depth and message throughput.
What survives a restart?
Everything on rabbitmq_data, because it is a persistent named volume. Restarting the container does not touch your queue and exchange definitions, users, permissions or persisted messages on durable queues.
Can I change my domain later?
Yes — the domain only fronts the management console over HTTPS. It is not baked into RabbitMQ's own configuration, so changing it means updating your HTTPS route and any bookmarks to the console; your AMQP connections use the server's IP address directly and are unaffected.
Is xCloud officially partnered with RabbitMQ?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and RabbitMQ or Broadcom has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source RabbitMQ project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
