ruTorrent Hosting Live In 5 Minutes

ruTorrent hosting on xCloud lets you deploy ruTorrent and manage the rTorrent BitTorrent client from your browser while it runs on your own server. xCloud runs the pinned ruTorrent 5.3.14 with rTorrent 0.16.22 image, writes the login you choose before the app starts, mounts volumes for state and downloads, and publishes the rTorrent web interface over HTTPS with its own peer and DHT ports.

What is ruTorrent?

ruTorrent is a web front end for the BitTorrent client rTorrent. Upstream says it is lightweight on the server side, so it can run on low-end hardware, and extensible through plugins. A self-hosted ruTorrent lets you manage downloads from a browser while rTorrent runs on your own server, much like a seedbox you control. ruTorrent is released under the GPLv3, and rTorrent and libtorrent are GPL-2.0-or-later.

On xCloud the template runs ruTorrent 5.3.14 with rTorrent 0.16.22 in one container, a community image pinned by digest, with nginx, PHP-FPM and rTorrent together. State sits on rutorrent_data, downloads on rutorrent_downloads and the login files on rutorrent_passwd. Dedicated TCP peer and UDP DHT ports are published, and the template is a singleton, one install per server.

From Sign-Up to a Live ruTorrent Install In Just 3 Easy Steps

Self-hosting a seedbox normally means a container, a login, two open ports and a domain before a single torrent can download. This is the same result without assembling any of it.

  1. Step 01

Create your xCloud account, pick ruTorrent from the OneClick catalog, choose a domain, and set an administrator username and password — or leave the password empty to have a strong one generated.

  2. Step 02

    We Deploy It For You

One click. We bring up the pinned ruTorrent 5.3.14 with rTorrent 0.16.22 image, write the login before the app starts, allocate a peer (TCP) and DHT (UDP) port, and publish the interface over HTTPS on your domain.

  3. Step 03

Sign In And Open Your Ports

Answer your browser's sign-in dialog with the saved credentials, then allow the TCP peer port and UDP DHT port shown on the credentials card in your own firewall before adding your first torrent.

Everything ruTorrent Does, On Your Own Server

ruTorrent runs in full here — the same browser-managed BitTorrent client as any seedbox interface, on infrastructure you control.

  • Manage Downloads From The Browser

Add, pause, prioritize and remove torrents from the ruTorrent web interface while rTorrent runs on your server.

  • Dedicated Peer And DHT Ports

Each install gets its own TCP peer port and UDP DHT port for incoming connections, shown on the credentials card.

  • Login Enforced Before The App Starts

The username and password are written before ruTorrent starts, so the web interface, XMLRPC and WebDAV were all verified to require authentication.

  • Loaded Torrents Survive A Restart

QA verified that torrents already loaded were still listed in ruTorrent after an xCloud Restart.

  • Settings And Downloads On Persistent Volumes

Session data, settings and downloaded files live on their own volumes, separate from the container itself.

  • One Container, Nothing Else To Wire Up

A single container runs nginx, PHP-FPM and rTorrent together — there is no separate service to configure.

Everything You Need To Run Your Downloads 24/7

Managed hosting for ruTorrent, so the parts that keep it online are not your problem.

  • ruTorrent 5.3.14 with rTorrent 0.16.22 deployed instantly
  • Login written before the app starts
  • Dedicated peer and DHT ports allocated
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Server backups and snapshots

  • 30+ server locations
  • Unused balance refunded

What You Can Do With ruTorrent

  • Run a seedbox you control

Manage torrents from a browser while rTorrent downloads and seeds on your own Cloud VPS, with the files on its disk.

  • Keep downloads off your own machine

Start a torrent from your laptop or phone and leave it running on the server, instead of keeping a client open at home.

  • Add features with plugins

Use ruTorrent's plugin system to extend the interface, as upstream describes, without changing the rTorrent client behind it.

  • Share one client with a trusted few

Give a small group the login, remembering that anyone who signs in has full administrator access to the container.

ruTorrent vs Alternatives

Seedbox providers
Hosted services that run a torrent client for you. A ruTorrent alternative to seedbox providers runs on your own Cloud VPS, with the downloads on a volume you control.
qBittorrent
qBittorrent has its own OneClick page. In a ruTorrent vs qBittorrent comparison, ruTorrent is a plugin-based web front end for rTorrent, while qBittorrent is a different client with its own interface.
Deluge
Deluge has its own OneClick page. It is another BitTorrent client with a web interface, so choose by the client and plugins you already use.
Flood
Flood has its own OneClick page. It is a separate web interface for torrent clients; ruTorrent is the plugin-based web front end built for rTorrent, run here in one container with it.

Hear what people are saying about us

See why agencies, developers, startups, and growing businesses choose xCloud to power their projects.

xCloud works really well, I am surprised by its performance being this the release version, I have tried many paid platforms such as runcloud, cloudpages or serveravatar, as well as free platforms such as CyberPanel, CloudPanel or Hestia Control Panel and direct competitors such as SpinupWP and FlyWP. Of all those that I have tried, the platform that works best for WordPress is SpinupWP and I believe that xCloud can reach and surpass that development, its roadmap is promising. Congratulations to the xCloud team, I hope they become the leading platform in the segment, it has all the potential to achieve it!
Brian Geovanny
I've been with runcloud for the last 3 years. However, after trying xcloud for the last month, I'm switching over. They are on a roll with their setup.

I'm moving my servers to xCloud, a cloud control panel by M Asif Rahman and the WPDeveloper team. Their roadmap looks interesting and no, there are no team mates nor API limits with xCloud! #xCloud #wordpress #hosting

xCloud is like having an expert server team on call — without the big agency costs. It's given me back my time and given my clients peace of mind. Highly recommended for freelancers and small teams who want reliable performance and security.

xCloud isn't just a solution. It's like one of that friend who got your back when you screw things up pretty bad.

Trust me when I say, once people explore the potential of xCloud they gonna switch from other panels, just keep delivering the best tech, lots of love for the team 😍😍

So far my experience has been smooth like silk. I didn't imagine that configuring and managing a VPS would be so easy. As of today, I have deployed 8 sites. The support is good, and they treat users with respect, even if they ask stupid questions (myself included). For the future, I hope for greater flexibility in scheduled backups and more comprehensive and consistent documentation. I'm sure that within a few months, xCloud will become the leader in its segment. This community is amazing, and the Staff here is super helpful.

Came from cloudways then to runcloud then to xcloud. Looks like I'm staying here.
Gerson El
I've recently taken all of my Vultr-hosted sites and gotten rid of cPanel for them to substitute it with xCloud. I have to say, I'm really impressed with xCloud so far! The interface is definitely the standout feature for me.
Tony Lewis
I came from Cloudways and won't go back. Highly impressed with xCloud. Glad I gave them a chance.
Jared McDowell
I like xCloud better than RunCloud, but one thing I'll point out is that some years ago RunCloud was hungry for business, the support was outstanding, and the community was active and helped each other. Maybe it was sold, there was a change in management, or they stopped being hungry, but the quality of the RunCloud offering declined and it hasn't been moving forward quickly. My point is that currently the xCloud team has the edge and it is theirs to keep or lose

Dear xCloud Team, I have been using xCloud for some time now and am genuinely impressed with its capabilities and the flexibility it offers by allowing users to bring their own VPS for management. It's a fantastic service, and my experience so far has been very positive. Successful migrated 5 sites on a single server. Xcloud migration tool worked great. There were few hiccups with security plugin like MalCare but disabling the plugin prior to migration worked just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Is ruTorrent free?

Yes. ruTorrent is GPLv3 and rTorrent and libtorrent are GPL-2.0-or-later, so none of the software is paid. The recurring cost is the Cloud VPS, and the downloads you keep are what take its disk, so size the server for them.

How much RAM does ruTorrent need?

The floor is one core with 512 MB of RAM and 20 GB of disk, plus space for your downloads. Memory use grows with the number of torrents, so the 6 GB plan leaves room for that and for other apps; disk is what you will outgrow first.

Can you self-host ruTorrent with Docker?

Yes, and this template is ruTorrent Docker hosting without the setup: the crazymax rtorrent-rutorrent 5.3.14-0.16.22 image pinned by digest, nginx login files written for you, three volumes, public peer and DHT ports, and HTTPS on your domain.

Do I need to open ports for ruTorrent?

xCloud does not open firewall ports. Open the TCP peer port and the UDP DHT port shown in your credentials in your own firewall. Without them rTorrent still downloads, but incoming peers cannot connect to it.

How do I sign in to ruTorrent?

Your browser shows a sign-in dialog; enter the username and password from the installation credentials. There is no separate login page, because the image protects ruTorrent with HTTP Basic authentication in nginx and the template writes the password files for you.

How much access does the ruTorrent login grant?

Full administrator access. Anyone who signs in can add and remove torrents, read and delete downloaded files, browse the container filesystem, and rTorrent can run commands. Basic authentication has no lockout, so use a long password and share it sparingly.

Can other peers see my server's IP address in ruTorrent?

Yes. Other peers in a torrent swarm can see this server's public IP address, so only download and share content you have the right to. xCloud does not filter what you add to the client.

How do I back up ruTorrent?

Back up rutorrent_data, which holds rTorrent and ruTorrent state and settings, and rutorrent_downloads, which holds incomplete and finished downloads, while the app is stopped. The rutorrent_passwd volume is rebuilt from your login on every start.

How do I upgrade ruTorrent?

The install stays on ruTorrent 5.3.14 with rTorrent 0.16.22 until you adopt a newer template version. Copy the state and downloads volumes, then read the upstream notes. Nothing upgrades the app by itself, so you choose when to move.

Is there a ruTorrent cloud service I can use?

This page is your own ruTorrent cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source client and its web interface, with downloads on a volume of your own. Nobody else shares the client, and the template allows one install per server.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.

Connect your first server in minutes. No plan you have to grow into.
