What is Flood?

Flood is a modern web interface for the rTorrent BitTorrent client. It only manages a torrent client; it does not download anything itself, which is why this template runs rTorrent alongside it.

With Flood you add torrents by .torrent file or URL, watch their progress and manage the torrents and their files from any browser. Flood is licensed GPL-3.0; rTorrent and libtorrent are GPL-2.0-or-later.

Does Flood download anything itself?

No. Flood manages a torrent client; this template runs rTorrent beside it.

How do I sign in the first time?

There is no default password. Open the site and register; the first account is the administrator. Choose rTorrent as the client, Unix socket as the connection type and enter the socket path shown in your installation credentials.

Is it safe to leave the site unregistered after install?

No. Until the first account exists, anyone who reaches the site can create it, so register immediately after install. Once the first account exists, registration is closed to others.

What runs alongside Flood?

An rTorrent container sharing the same volume, controlled over an internal Unix socket that is never published.

Do I need to open ports?

For incoming peers, yes: xCloud does not open firewall ports, so allow the TCP peer port and UDP DHT port shown in the credentials in your own firewall. Without them torrents still download.

Who can see my server's IP address?

Other peers in a swarm can see the server's public IP address. Only download and share content you have the right to.

How should I secure the account?

Anyone who can sign in can add and remove torrents and read, move or delete downloaded files, so use a long password and change it under Settings, then Authentication.

What should I back up?

The flood_home volume, which holds the Flood account, settings, rTorrent session data, logs and downloads. Back it up while the site is stopped so rTorrent's resume data and files stay consistent.

What survives a restart?

Everything on the flood_home volume — your account, settings, session data and downloads — survives an xCloud Restart.

Does xCloud automatically back up or update Flood?

No. The images are pinned by immutable digest, so moving to a newer Flood requires a new template version. Flood does not promise database downgrades, so back up first. Server-level backups and snapshots are available on every Cloud VPS.

What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?

The template's baseline asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 20 GB of disk plus space for downloads; measured idle use in QA was about 150 MiB for Flood and about 1 MiB for rTorrent. Memory use grows with the number of torrents, so this page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung.

Is xCloud officially partnered with Flood?

No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and the Flood or rTorrent projects has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for open-source software.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
