What is Shaarli?

Shaarli is the personal, minimalist, super fast, database-free bookmarking service. Upstream describes a link sharing service that you install on your own server, designed to be personal (single-user), fast and handy, with tags, search and selective sharing. A self-hosted Shaarli is an alternative to saving links in a read-later service such as Pocket, distributed under the zlib/libpng licence, with a public demo upstream.

No. Shaarli is database-free, storing configuration and bookmarks as flat files in its data directory. The template runs one container with no database service, so the shaarli_data volume is the only thing that holds your bookmarks and settings.

How do I create the Shaarli administrator login?

Open the HTTPS URL on first visit and complete Shaarli's setup screen with a login, a strong password, an instance title and a timezone. The install form collects no credentials, so there is no generated password to look up.

Is Shaarli multi-user?

Is my Shaarli private?

Links are private or public per bookmark, and the admin area needs your login. Public links are visible to anyone with the address, so mark carefully. Add Basic Auth at your reverse proxy if the whole site should be closed.

How do I back up Shaarli?

Back up the whole shaarli_data volume, which is the authoritative boundary for configuration and bookmarks. The shaarli_cache volume can be regenerated. Stop writes before a snapshot, keep off-server copies, test a restore, and never delete the data volume during a routine update.

How do I upgrade Shaarli?

The install stays on its pinned v0.16.5 image until you adopt a newer template version. Back up shaarli_data and read the upstream release notes first, then recreate the container without deleting volumes. Nothing upgrades automatically.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
