What is Sonarr?

Sonarr is a smart PVR for newsgroup and BitTorrent users. It monitors RSS feeds for new episodes of the shows you follow, then grabs, sorts and renames them, can upgrade files you already have when better quality appears, scans an existing library for missing episodes and tries another release if a download fails. Upstream lists SABnzbd and NZBGet for downloads and Kodi and Plex for notifications. A self-hosted Sonarr is a TV library manager on your own server. It is licensed GPL-3.0.

The sonarr_config volume holds configuration and sonarr_data holds a shared /data tree with tv and downloads folders, so files move without copying. xCloud creates the administrator account and generated API key. How much RAM does Sonarr need?

The template floor is 256 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk. Sonarr itself is light, so the 6 GB plan is far above it, but the shared /data volume fills with your library and downloads, so plan disk first.

Can you self-host Sonarr with Docker?

Yes, and this template is sonarr docker hosting without the setup: the LinuxServer image pinned by digest, sonarr_config and sonarr_data volumes, a generated administrator and API key, and HTTPS on your own domain.

Does Sonarr include indexers or a download client?

No. Sonarr starts with none. Add indexers and a download client under Settings; upstream lists SABnzbd and NZBGet for downloads. Then add /data/tv as the root folder, and finished downloads land in /data/downloads.

How do I sign in to Sonarr?

Use the administrator username and generated password from your credentials card; the install turned on Forms sign-in. If Sonarr asks you to set up authentication instead, do it right away, because anyone reaching the site first could claim it.

Is Sonarr an alternative to downloading episodes by hand?

Yes, that is its purpose. Upstream describes a PVR that monitors feeds for new episodes, grabs, sorts and renames them, and upgrades quality. You supply indexers and clients, and you should only fetch content you have the right to.

Is Sonarr free?

Yes. Sonarr is GPL-3.0 software with no licence charge. Your costs are the Cloud VPS and whatever indexer or download-client subscriptions you choose, so this Sonarr cloud install is yours to run.

How do I rotate the Sonarr API key?

Edit the Sonarr__Auth__ApiKey line in the Environment editor and redeploy; regenerating it in Settings does not persist, because Sonarr applies that variable on every start. Anyone with the API key has full control of Sonarr.

How do I back up Sonarr?

Back up sonarr_config, which holds the database and settings, and sonarr_data, which holds your media and downloads. Stop or quiesce Sonarr before copying the config volume, and back up the media tree according to its size and value.

How do I upgrade Sonarr?

Sonarr stays on its pinned 4.0.20.3014 image until a newer template version is adopted. Copy sonarr_config beforehand and check the Sonarr release notes. Nothing changes by itself.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
