What is Spliit?
Spliit is a free, open-source, privacy-friendly shared expense tracker — groups, flexible splits, balances and reimbursement suggestions, similar in spirit to Splitwise. This template deploys v1.23.1.
Is Spliit free?
Yes — it is free and open source under the MIT license. What you pay xCloud for is the dedicated server it runs on and the management around it, not the software itself.
Can I self-host Spliit?
Yes — that is exactly what this template deploys. It brings up the official Spliit image alongside a private PostgreSQL database, both pinned by immutable digest, mounts a persistent volume and publishes it over HTTPS on your domain in minutes instead of assembled by hand.
How do I sign in — who's the administrator?
There is no administrator account and no sign-in at all. Spliit has no account system: each group you create has its own unguessable link, and that link is the only credential needed to open it.
What happens if I lose a group's link?
It cannot be recovered from xCloud or from Spliit itself — the manifest's own installation message says so explicitly. Save every group's link somewhere secure, such as a password manager, the moment you create it.
What does xCloud configure automatically?
A private PostgreSQL database with a generated password, the persistent data volume, the domain, and the HTTPS route. The only field you fill in yourself is the default currency code for new groups.
Is receipt scanning or file upload included?
No. Optional receipt scanning and document uploads are disabled in this template because they depend on separately managed OpenAI and S3 services that aren't part of this deployment.
What should I back up?
The spliit_db volume, which holds every group, participant, expense, balance and activity record. The application container itself holds no authoritative data and can be recreated freely.
Does xCloud automatically back up or update Spliit?
No. The template pins Spliit and PostgreSQL by immutable digest; a catalog re-sync affects new installations only. Before changing either pin, back up spliit_db, review Spliit's release notes and Prisma migration behavior, then verify groups, balances and group links still work.
What are the server requirements, and why does this page sell 6 GB?
The template manifest asks for 1 GB of RAM, one CPU core and 10 GB of disk as a floor for Spliit alongside PostgreSQL. This page sells the 6 GB tier as the entry rung with real headroom above that floor.
What survives a restart?
Everything on spliit_db, because it is a persistent named volume. Restarting the containers or running an xCloud lifecycle action does not touch your groups, expenses or balances.
Should I treat backups as sensitive?
Yes. Restoring the database also restores the existing group identifiers, which means any previously saved group link works against the restored data too. Handle backups with the same care as the group links themselves.
Is xCloud officially partnered with Spliit?
No. No official partnership or endorsement between xCloud and Spliit has been verified. This is a deployment and server-management option for the open-source Spliit project.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
