What is Watcharr?

Watcharr is, in its own words, an easily self-hosted content watched list: the place you store your watched, watching or planned movies and TV shows, plus anime, rate them and track their status. Upstream says video game tracking is possible with some extra configuration for IGDB, and that the app is built with Go and SvelteKit. A self-hosted Watcharr is licensed GPL-3.0.

On xCloud the template runs Watcharr 4.2.1 from the official image, digest-pinned, and uses one container with no database sidecar to run. Accounts, watched-list data, configuration and cached images sit on the watcharr_data volume. The first account created becomes the administrator, so register it before sharing the URL. Game tracking and other integrations are not configured by the template, so each one is yours to add later.

Is Watcharr free?

Yes. Watcharr is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, so the software has no licence fee. Your cost is the Cloud VPS holding the SQLite database and cached artwork, and a watched list takes very little space.

How much RAM does Watcharr need?

The manifest asks for 1 CPU core, 512 MB of RAM and 5 GB of disk. A Go service with SQLite needs little, so the 6 GB plan leaves most of the server free, with disk used mainly by cached images.

Can you self-host Watcharr with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Watcharr Docker hosting without the setup: the ghcr.io/sbondco/watcharr v4.2.1 image pinned by digest, one container with embedded SQLite, the watcharr_data volume and HTTPS on your domain, with no database sidecar to run.

Who becomes the Watcharr administrator?

The first account registered after installation. Upstream makes the first account the administrator, so open the HTTPS URL straight after deploying and create it yourself, with a strong password, before you share the address with anyone.

Can I add more users to Watcharr?

Yes. Once the first administrator account exists, you can add local accounts for family or housemates, and every account keeps its own watched list. There are no install-form fields and no generated secrets, so accounts are created inside the app.

Does Watcharr track video games?

Upstream says games can be tracked with some extra configuration for IGDB. This template does not set that up, so the baseline covers movies, television and anime. Add the IGDB credentials from Watcharr's own settings if you want games.

How do I back up Watcharr?

Back up the watcharr_data volume, which holds the SQLite database, server configuration, profile images and cached artwork. Upstream requires stopping Watcharr before copying it, because a live SQLite copy can be inconsistent, so schedule the copy for a quiet moment.

How do I upgrade Watcharr?

The install stays on Watcharr 4.2.1 until you adopt a newer template version. Stop the app, back up watcharr_data and read the upstream release notes first. Nothing upgrades the app automatically, and a redeploy keeps the volume.

What runs alongside Watcharr?

Nothing. It is one container with an embedded SQLite database and no sidecar, and only the web interface is published, over HTTPS. That keeps backups to a single volume and the whole stack easy to reason about.

Is there a Watcharr cloud service I can use?

This page is your own Watcharr cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source watched list, with accounts and history on a volume of your own. Nobody else shares it, and you decide who gets an account.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
