What is Ryot?

Ryot is, in upstream's words, a self hosted platform for tracking various facets of your life, such as media, fitness and more. Its dashboard covers media history, workouts, collections and measurements in one place. A self-hosted Ryot is an alternative to a hosted tracker such as Trakt, with the data in a database you run. It is GPL-3.0 licensed, and upstream also advertises Pro features.

On xCloud the template runs the open-source Ryot v10.5.0 and a private PostgreSQL, both pinned by digest, with only Ryot published over HTTPS. The database cluster sits on the ryot_postgres_data volume. No administrator is created for you: the first account to register becomes admin, and registration stays open until an admin restricts it. Telemetry is disabled, and metadata providers are not configured.

Is Ryot free?

Yes. Ryot's open-source release is GPL-3.0, and this template runs that release rather than the Pro features upstream advertises. Your cost is the Cloud VPS holding the PostgreSQL volume, and that is the only recurring cost.

How much RAM does Ryot need?

The manifest asks for 2048 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core and 10 GB of disk, because Ryot and PostgreSQL run together. The 6 GB plan is the entry rung and leaves comfortable room for a growing history of media and workouts.

Can you self-host Ryot with Docker?

Yes, and this template is Ryot Docker hosting without the setup: the vendor's v10.5.0 image and PostgreSQL 18, both pinned by digest, a generated database password and admin token, one data volume and HTTPS. The database has no published port.

Who becomes the administrator on a new Ryot install?

The first account to register. Ryot grants that user the administrator role, xCloud creates no login, and registration stays open to anyone with the URL until an admin restricts it. Register immediately and review the sign-up settings before sharing the address.

What is the Ryot admin access token for?

It is Ryot's account-recovery credential. It authorises a password reset for any user without a session, and you can read it in the xCloud credentials panel. Keep it out of screenshots, logs and support messages, and do not change it.

Does Ryot send telemetry?

Telemetry is disabled in this template's baseline, so the server does not report usage back to the project. Optional metadata providers and integrations need credentials that you add after installation; none of them is configured by default.

Does Ryot include metadata providers?

Not configured. Optional metadata providers and integrations need customer-supplied credentials, added after install. They are not needed for baseline health or for tracking your own fitness, so the app works without them but with less automatic detail.

How do I back up Ryot?

Back up the complete ryot_postgres_data volume, which holds the PostgreSQL cluster and therefore every user, setting, workout, collection and measurement. Restore it with the same generated database password, and never run docker compose down -v on a live install.

How do I upgrade Ryot?

The install stays on Ryot v10.5.0 and PostgreSQL 18 until you adopt a newer template version. Back up and test-restore the database volume first and read the Ryot migration notes. A PostgreSQL major upgrade needs dump and restore.

Is there a Ryot cloud service I can use?

This page is your own Ryot cloud: a dedicated Cloud VPS running the open-source tracker, with your history in a private PostgreSQL on a volume of your own. Nobody else shares it, and sign-up is yours to restrict.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There is no lock-in — cancel any time. Hosting is billed monthly and charged for what you actually use, so when you delete the server the unused balance is refunded to your account, less up to 10% in payment-processing fees.
